so! when it comes to drawing you may use wacky palettes. and thats good and fun, i love me some colors. sometimes you may use colors like orange or yellow as skintones to make stuff pop, instead of making them the more realistic spectrum of browns and tans and etc that exist in the real world.

now, we are aware that it is derogatory to call asians yellow! yes! still frowned upon! bad! REALLY don’t do that!! before i say anything else, let me tell you! that i myself am literally half chinese! my mom and her family literally were born in! and came over from! hong kong! i dont feel like i should have to tell you all these details about my life!!!!!!!!!!!! because you are not entitled to them!!!!!!! but anon pissed me off so i feel like i guess i have to justify!

so! growing up and existing as half chinese, i’m still very sensitive to racism against asians! believe it or not i did experience some of that shit in gradeschool! even tho!! i’m not even!!! fully asian!!! unfortunately i grew up in a very white whitey white town so!! guess we had it coming lmfao!! i’m digressing

i was accused of being Problematic by lovely anon here (who went all the way to send these messages to me on my fucking splatoon blog where none of the content there is even related to what was being critiqued (aka my jojo art) probably to take advantage of the fact i have anonymous messages switched on over there and dont here on my main) because i use yellow as a skintone on asian characters.

that may sound bad by itself but it is only bad if you are EXCLUSIVELY USING YELLOW on asian characters. whoa wha?!?!?!!?!?!?!? im sorry if your small brain cannot comprehend that concept

all of these characters are fully japanese! 100% asian! oh no, hold up, some of them were drawn with yellow palettes for their complexion! WAIT A SECOND!!! IS THAT...? Unproblematic Because As You Can See i portray asians in a variety of colors for skintones and not just yellow as people who are historically racist towards asians generally refer to them as? CORRECT!!!!!!

i will say that i would understand if there are asians out there who are uncomfortable with this artistic choice because of this history in the racism against asians. but i firmly stand with the belief that doing so is only a problem if (1) you only use yellow as a skintone when you are drawing asians and/or (2) if you reserve using yellow as a skintone JUST for when you are drawing asians.

i obviously do neither and im not calling myself perfect on any level but calling me problematic for this is just plain INCORRRECT.

anyway. sorry. i know i said i wasn’t going to acknowledge this anon’s messages unless they showed a face, but after some thinking i’m like. man. if others are this disillusioned maybe i need to say some shit. to teach The People or something
