Haruka was so focused on his painfully tight bindings and the rough hold on his hair that he didn’t notice how furious his companion was becoming. He blinked in mild surprise at the teen’s sudden outburst, his eyes widening as Souta used his strength and managed to push himself up onto his feet. Unfortunately, just as quickly as he was up, he was shoved back down. A glare crossed his features as the other’s hair was harshly yanked, anger bubbling up inside him.
Before he could speak, the man behind him gave a squeeze to his own hair, as if silently warning him. His body relaxed faintly, though not out of relief, and a small, shaky sigh left his lips. He chose to be wise, not making any sudden moves or saying something out of line that would get him in more trouble. As much as he wanted to demand that they leave Souta alone, he wasn’t sure just what lengths the two men were willing to go to.
He was glad when his hair was finally freed and the two investigators were up and moving toward the door. The comment about needing to behave normally wouldn’t have fazed him, seeing it as nothing but an empty threat, however he hadn’t gotten a good read on their personalities yet. He couldn’t tell if the men were unpredictable or spontaneous. He didn’t know if he could trust that they would be honest with what they did, or if they would lie simply to make them obey.
“I sure wouldn’t mind if we’ve gotta make this a whole lot more painful.” The bulky man said, eyeing over the bound pair with a big, toothy grin. “Would actually be fun.”
The lanky man gave a deep chuckle, resting an arm over his partner’s broad shoulder. He spared a glance at the two back inside the room and his smirk grew. He waved a hand dismissively, speaking as if he was talking about something as mundane as the weather. “Well, I suppose we have a few options. That damn ghoul is what’s most important, so we can just auction the little one off. There’s plenty of old, filthy perverts who would pay a handsome price for him.”
The other male laughed dumbly and looked over at Souta, attempting to provoke a reaction. “Oh, man. That oughta make the monster reeaally mad, huh? Would it make you mad, freak? To have your little boyfriend sold off like that, how’d that make you feel? Can’t be good at all, I’d imagine.”
He tried his hardest to block the taunting out, his head turned away and looking down. He couldn’t meet Souta’s eyes. It was too humiliating. The words were said purposefully, to make them respond and get angry. He knew that, but it didn’t make it any easier to hear such disgusting things said about them. He wasn’t going to allow the thought of being sold to some repulsive stranger enter his mind.
He was so thankful when the door finally closed, the sound of dark chuckles fading away. He felt eyes on him and looked up to meet the older boy’s gaze. He could only imagine how fragile he looked in this situation, and it was difficult to look at the state the ghoul was in. Bloody and beaten, his wounds from the barbed wire red and agitated. He blinked as the other spoke and his expression softened a bit.
“... I know that you will. You will get us both out of here. You have evaded the CCG for years, and you are not about to let two pathetic rejects be the ones who turn you in.” He didn’t even say the sentence as a question, but as if it was matter of fact. He believed in Souta, he knew how determined he was to get them out of this. He was determined, too. As if they were going to let these guys win.
