aois21 rewind - June 9, 2014
Time to look back at the week that was, June 1-7, 2014.
We started off last week by announcing the signing of new author Joshua Morgan! Josh is the first author to sign with us that had not already published. We will be shepherding his children's book, Pockets, from concept to publication, making it available electronically and in print.
The Empty Spaces by Bianca Palmisano is now available for sale as an eBook from the aois21 market!
You can also find it on KoboBooks!
Then it was posted to Google Play!
Also in multiple formats from Smashwords!
Barnes & Noble was next to host it's sales!
Finally it was listed on Amazon, where you can also get the print edition!
We are now awaiting approval from Apple for the iBookstore.
Our titles page at aois21.com was updated this week to include links to each book's Goodreads page and Google Books entry. We are continuing to evaluate additional information to share about our authors and their work.
We did not back any additional Kickstarter campaigns this week.
On tumblr this week, sonofswift launched a new round of research by conducting targeted surname searches, starting with the Shovlin surname. Although it was hung up by time constraints, the overall structure of the research is taking shape and the next few weeks have been planned out. Moving on, @48gamemisconduct, looked back at a photo it posted last year considering the news that the Los Angeles Kings are for sale. It also shared news of a charity campaign being supported by the New York Rangers. Here on the main blog, we said goodbye to our partner Togather, which announced it was shutting down after two years of connecting readers and authors. We announced the signing of Joshua Morgan and shared news about the clash between Amazon and Hachette. This included Stephen Colbert's response to Amazon's actions, as a Hachette author, himself.
That's a busy week and there is more to come, as you've seen if you've been keep up with this blog. Remember to check back regularly as we launch ad campaigns, release new titles, sign new authors, and take a dynamic approach to making our authors, and their work, a success!
aois21 rewind - May 27, 2014
Sorry for the delay, but the holiday kept many of us busy. This post will include an extra day to add the Launch party on the 25th.
Time to look back at the week that was (+ a day), May 18-25, 2014:
Our Launch Party was Sunday, the 25th from 7 to 9 at the Busboys and Poets at 5th and K in DC. We had the Loft on the upper level to ourselves and had an excellent time. We had a nice mix of staff, authors, and supporters, although the numbers were lower than we would've liked. The venue was great and the food was delicious, we highly recommend visiting Busboys and Poets for a meal, or having an event. We will be working with them in the future.
We announced the signing of our newest author, Bianca Palmisano, on Thursday. Bianca's book of poetry, The Empty Spaces, is now available for preorder through the aois21 market. It's available in print from Amazon for $7.99, and will be only $3.99 for the eBook coming soon.
We'll have more to announce this week, make sure you check back here or on our official news site, news.aois21.com.
We did not support any new Kickstarter projects this week, but our latest update will be coming out today.
On tumblr this week, sonofswift shared the latest Genealogy Gems podcast by Lisa Louise Cooke, a website to search British Court records at the Old Bailey, and the latest free access weekend from Ancestry.com for Memorial Day. 48gamemisconduct shared the work of alcreed with his 8-bit version of NHL jerseys. On our blog, we shared the announcement of Bianca Palmisano's signing, another creation of alcreed, 100 8-bit authors, unboxing photos from our Vistaprint order of posters for the launch party, and finally pictures taken during our launch party.
More news is coming about our updated website and all over visual design, new authors, new books, new products, and new opportunities. Keep in touch and remember to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, about.me, and our home on the web, aois21.com!
See you next week!
aois21 rewind - 5 May 2014
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
It's time to look back at the week that was, April 27th - May 3rd.
Our Kickstarter came to a close at Midnight on Saturday as we reached our goal, plus an additional 20%. Thank you to our 17 backers who put us over the top Saturday morning. The funds are currently being collected through Amazon Payments and all of the surveys have been sent out to our backers for them to receive their rewards.
No new announcements this week, but progress is being made on several projects. Stay tuned.
The redesign of aois21.com continues as we will be shifting the hosting of our site at a future date. For now, our webpage will make small but necessary changes. Once the new site is finished, top to bottom, we will do a relaunch.
We backed four more projects on Kickstarter this week. They are:
META: The Idea Generator by Tim Ellis - which, unfortunately, failed to meet its goal on Thursday.
Hourse Racing 2014: Solar WarFare by LittleDragonInc - a local project that we wanted to help get off the ground.
Alexandria Police Fallen Officers Memorial by Ginny Hill - They've already raised $250K, but wanted to add $10K through Kickstarter.
What Would Tina and Amy Do? at Capital Fringe 2014 by Larissa Kruesi and Mikaela Saccoccio - What would they do?
On tumblr this week, the only updates were from our main blog where we shared the updated Kicktraq information on our Kickstarter, released the new video we showed for the last week of the Kickstarter, Congratulate the eventual announcement of the winner of the "Great tumblr Book Search," and did our monthly Google hits check. As an added bonus this month, we did a Bing hits check as well.
On Facebook and Twitter, we continued to thank our backers and posted our final, pre-close, update for all to see. Remember to check out our daily twitter newsletter, the nuachtan21 daily, sharing news from the world of publishing and online promotions.
That's it for last week. In the days ahead, we will start following through on our promises and send out rewards for our Kickstarter. It looks like many of the backers would like a printed copy of the aois21 annual, so we will be meeting with printers to price that. Otherwise, check back here for what's new and exciting from aois21 publishing!
What do you want your book to be?
aois21 rewind - April 28, 2014
Looking back at the week that was, April 20-26, 2014
Our Kickstarter is in it's final week and is up to 88.9% thanks to one new backer (who we supported, see below) and an increased pledge by one of our previous backers. Only $232 remains between us and our goal!
Yesterday we had two announcements, both made through our Update to our Kickstarter. The first is our new submission policy for the aois21 annual, and the second was the booking of our launch party for Sunday, May 25th at Busboys and Poets in DC.
The redesign of aois21.com is continuing. So far the changes have been smaller and more focused and the full redesign is being planned out. The major change was the addition of an About Us page and several pages being reorganized.
We backed the following projects (now 46) on Kickstarter this week:
Soul Cakes by Tanya is going commercial! by Tanya Logan - a local baker stepping out into the marketplace.
Trinity - The Portable Wind Turbine Power Station by Skajaquoda
"What I don't want to be" by Rall Elder - making print copies of his book for children.
Editing KINGSLEY by Carolyn O'Neal - Send Carolyn's YA Eco fiction book to a professional editor. (Carolyn has also backed our project!).
TI:ME SLIPPERS by Ryan Dougherty - High-Performance Slippers.
On tumblr this week: sonofswift had a post about a new collection available for research at Ancestry.com. We shared our new submission policy for the aois21 annual.
We are still awaiting approval to update Goodreads pages and do not have web links to Nielsen PubWeb just yet.
More updates to come, plus the final days of our Kickstarter.
Have a good week!
aois21 rewind - March 31, 2014
Sorry for the delay, but it was a busy weekend, a look back at the week that was March 23-29.
The big news of the week was the launch of our Kickstarter on Thursday night. As of tonight, we have three backers and reached 32% of our goal. The project will run through May 3rd.
On Saturday, we started preorders of the first issue of Son of Swift, a genealogical eJournal by Keith F. Shovlin, the serial version of the Son of Swift blog.
Ian Robert's novel, Nos Populus, is now available on the iBookstore.
In addition to launching our Kickstarter, we also backed the following projects:
In Pursuit of Happiness by Anabella Lensu
Send Washington Master Chorale to Chorus America! by Washington Master Chorale

Here are our updates on Tumblr this week:
On Son of Swift: We officially released a new logo/avatar, had a small update, and announced the preorder of the first Son of Swift eJournal.
On 48 Game Misconduct: We shared an infographic on the history of NHL jerseys, a statistical analysis of all teams NHL playoff chances, and a report that the Islanders are for sale.
On the main blog: we shared the 12 stages of Novel writing, several posts on our Kickstarter, and an info graphic on famous creators and their schedules.
We've had interviews with prospective authors and are hoping to announce new agreements soon.
