“Hey, are you sure you’re okay?” Aoi asked as he stared at the sweets before him. Cakes, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, you name it, piled on the table before him. It was like a 7 year old’s best dream, and that’s precisely how Gravi’s prince knew that something wasn’t right.
“Everything’s fine, Aoi!” Yoru said as he forced a smile and made direct eye contact. Aoi certainly would not have this, especially on their rare days off together. He knew that Yoru did have a rougher time dealing with his thoughts and feelings, even sometimes going to Shun, of all people, to help him out. Aoi wanted to be that person for him, or one of them. He couldn’t just sit around while Yoru was stressed out. He approached the other slowly, still admiring the vast array of treats, and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“You’d tell me if something was wrong, right?” Yoru nodded in confirmation.
“Of course!” He returned his focus back to whisking eggs and moved to reference his recipe; his fake smile dissolving slowly.
“At this point we should probably open a bakery!” Aoi joked, which definitely missed. In truth, he had no idea how he should approach this. He desperately wanted to help Yoru, and it hurt him to see the other man like this, but he didn’t want to force him. All he wants is to help him relax. Finally, he decided.
“Hey, come here.” Aoi gently took the whisk from Yoru’s hand, and placed it back into the bowl. He slowly led him out of the kitchen and to the couch. Once they were seated, he placed his hand on Yoru’s shoulder again.
“We can talk about it, you know.” He reassured Yoru, and rubbed his shoulder tenderly. Aoi sat patiently, attempting to read the other man’s face. He would wait as long as it took if he needed to, and would never want to force it.
Yoru contemplated his offer. He wanted to vent so badly, but was afraid of troubling Aoi and anyone else he would tell. He nodded his head, understanding that the other man was worried and wanted to help.
“It’s just,” he started, not sure how he should explain how he’s feeling. “So much at once I guess? I don’t know, the work we’ve been getting is taking a toll on me.” Laughing nervously, he scratched at his neck and averted his gaze. Aoi nodded and moved to gently rub his back. It must have taken him a lot to open up like this. The two of them sat in silence for a while, none of them wanting to ruin the moment.
“You deserve a breather.” Aoi commented. “I can help you if you need it. You have a script for a new drama, and one for a commercial, right? We can practice together!” Maybe he was too excited, but he did really enjoy the thought of sharing a script with Yoru, especially if it took a load off of the other’s shoulders.
“Hmm, that’d be nice.” In truth, he’d rather forget about the work that he has to complete and do something else, but if Aoi was there, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad after all. As if sensing his apathy, Aoi started thinking of other options.
Well, there was a large number of confectionaries on the counter. And there was no way Aoi would skip out on eating it, or even any of Yoru’s cooking for that matter. The thought of them handling the full counter of sweets made him chuckle.
“Why don’t I make us some coffee and we have a snack?” He asked, moving his hand from Yoru’s shoulder and gesturing to the treats. The other man nodded, and the two moved to the kitchen. Yoru surveyed the various desserts on the table, and finally came to the realization that it was very obvious that he was stressed out. He smiled nervously, and changed his thoughts to what he would offer Aoi. He eyed each dessert individually, and attempted to recall how he felt when he made them. From macarons to cornets, to fudge brownies and turnovers, he wanted to offer what he felt would be the tastiest, and what suited Aoi’s tastes.
“How about some tiramisu cake?”
“Sounds tasty! The coffee is almost ready!” Aoi replied as he poured the drinks. As soon as Yoru was done cutting their pieces, the two joined each other at a nearby table.
“Here you go.” The two said in unison, handing each other a mug and a piece of cake respectively. They laughed, and each started enjoying their afternoon snack.
“Wow, it’s really delicious, Yoru! As expected from Procella’s Mom!” Aoi complemented, earning another laugh from him. Yoru gave him a happy nod, and the two continued to eat.
“Aoi,” Yoru put his plate down and turned to him. “Thank you. So much, really.” The genuine smile on his face was worth more than anything one could imagine. Worth more than any amount of money he could possibly make as an idol, in Aoi’s opinion.
“A-ah, it’s nothing!” Aoi said, scratching the back of his neck. “I just can’t focus on anything when I see you like that.” He ended off his sentence slowly and brought his attention to the finished plated on the tables. With a quick excuse, something along the lines of shouting “let me take these!”, he walked to the kitchen and silently cursed himself for possibly making Yoru’s situation worse. Little did he know, there Yoru was right behind him carrying the forgotten mugs. He fidgeted around, wanting to continue to show his gratitude without making Aoi uncomfortable.
“You made me feel a lot better.” Yoru said softly. Aoi looked at him for a moment, showing that he didn’t hear what was said.
“You made me feel a lot better!” He repeated louder, his face growing pink.
“I don’t know what I would do if you didn’t approach me.” He added, softening his voice again. He sat down on the counter, next to the raspberry pastries. Aoi joined him, and placed his hand on Yoru’s shoulder again, making the other’s eyes widen.
“It’s really no problem! If you need anything, you can always come to me.” Aoi gently assured him, once more receiving a thank you and a sweet smile. He could feel the genuinity from Yoru.
“For now, we should figure out what we should do with the rest of these.” Aoi motioned to the long, long, row of desserts.
“We could always give some to everyone else.” Yoru offered, looking over and slowly becoming embarrassed by the sheer amount of food that he actually made.
“We’d be able to feed Gravi and Procella breakfast, lunch, and dinner tenfold.”
“Aha, that’s definitely true.”
“But I don’t want to give any to them until I have those macarons. Oh, and that shortcake too!” Aoi fawned over the two and looked back at Yoru, who only nodded.
“Let’s have some more then!” Yoru and Aoi both grabbed more treats, and joined each other on the couch again. It wasn’t exactly their plan for their joint day off, but it was more than they could ask for.
