buttercups and daisies
today’s edition of i asked the group chat what to write so here’s a thing
Something crashes through the forest but Aone ignores it. There’s been crashing and clanging and branches breaking all morning. Later he’ll explore further into the trees, discover the fallout of whatever chaos has been happening, and heal whatever he can of it. For now he drops to his knees at the muddy edge of the pond and drops his hand into the water.
There’s a sharp nip to his fingers and he hums in apology.
“I know. I have been gone far too long,” he murmurs, voice rough from disuse. He wiggles his fingers in the water and there’s a gentle nudge in response. “You can come out.”
There’s a loud crash from the forest behind him and Aone turns, startled, in time to see a figure stumbling from the tree line.
The figure looks over it’s shoulder towards the trees and brushes itself off before glancing around. Aone can tell the moment he’s been spotted. The figure tenses for only a moment and then relaxes so completely Aone is a little surprised they don’t just melt to the ground.
“Nice day isn’t it?” they call out as they amble towards him.
Aone glances up at the sky and shrugs.
The figure reaches the pond and, after one more glance around, tugs their hood down. Aone blinks at the bright red hair and wild grin that’s uncovered. Most people this far out of the city look tired or lost. This person just looks, well, a little wild. Their eyes glimmer brightly and they loom over Aone. Which is impressive because Aone isn’t a small person but he knows that if he stood the two of them would be nearly eye to eye.
There’s a few more crashes from the forest and then silence.
Aone doesn’t look away from the figure in front of him.
“Hi,” Aone says. “You’re late.”
“I ran into a little bit of trouble.” That wild grin turns even sharper for a moment and then shifts into something soft. “But it’s all better now. And I’m here.”
“Tendou,” he warns.
“Aone,” Tendou teases. “So where is this friends of yours you wanted me to meet?”
Aone wriggles his fingers in the water a few times and then pulls his hand out. Tendou watches, eyes bright, as he stands and the water ripples.
“This is Buttercup.” The turtle’s head breaches the surface of the water and she stares at Tendou for a few long moments before continuing to slowly make her way out of the pond. The top of her shell nearly reaches their hips. He places his hand on her shell gently. “She’s wanted to meet you for awhile now.”
Tendou tilts his head and crouches down so he can meet the turtle’s eye.
“Buttercup,” Tendou murmurs. The turtle stretches her neck out and nips at the front of Tendou’s jacket. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Aone watches with a smile as the two most important beings in his life properly meet for the first time.
