Apartment update:
Previously: I realized our lease was up in less than a month (end of Semptember) and had NOT received any info from the management company about a new lease (it's legally required to be in my mailbox 60 days before the end of the lease.
Reached out; the actual manager of our property spelled my name wrong and said she'd reach out to the owner, which I thought was wild because it implied she just hadn't done her job yet.
Friday, got a note with an apology for misspelling my name and confirmation the owner had been reached out to, and I would get an update soon.
Fine.
Anyway, the place is still up for sale, so I've been assuming we're going from a year-long to a month-to-month. I got confirmation today.
From the properly owner. Who was also calling to let me know they're gonna put a new roof on the house, and we'd start seeing signs of that work starting today (they dropped off the portajohn, nothing where they had to enter the premises).
He tells me he's told the company to go month-to-month, and now I'm gonna see if I hear back from the people who are actually supposed to communicating shit to me by the end of the week.
We will not be trying to move at the end of the month, but I am definitely hoping we find a good fit sooner rather than later. The management company got bought out a couple of years ago and has sucked rocks since that time. I'm over it.
No one ever tells you what a wrench electric bills put into your budget- especially when they jack up by over $30 for seemingly no fucking reason other than “it’s hot out so your bill is more”.
Fucking bullshit. We’ve been trying to lower our usage because it was so expensive last month, and now I am really budgeted down to the wire. I need this fucking job so that I actually have money to pay my bills AND eat without stressing.
Today is the day! I picked up my Grad Attire, and soon I will be heading out to get my keys!
Also- A woman on the building message board posted that she is moving, and is looking for someone to purchase her dresser, and maybe some succulents (!!!) off of her! So I am going to chat with her about that today.
Super excited! Lots to do... And holy fuck I am graduating.
On a happier note, my GF and I just finalized plans to go to my parent’s house this weekend and do some MAJOR furniture shopping! It’s less than a month until our lease begins and I can go pick up our keys (Holy shit... And all my finals are due before then), so we’re all working to buy what we need and arrange both the movers to bring things from my parent’s place and a delivery from the furniture store.
Excited to go mattress shopping again... of course the one we liked is expensive as FUCK but we’ll see how that goes. Honestly, I can’t wait to have a new bed. My mattress has fucking holes in the bottom from the springs busting out and it’s so sunken in the middle I feel like I could eat soup out of it like a bowl. It’s like a little mattress crater that Cyn and I roll into every night while we sleep.
This front office lady at my apartment thinks I’m really gonna leave because she said, “the office manager has a few residents she needs to talk to before she can get to you.”
The way her face fell when I said, “Don’t worry. I can wait.”
And sat my ass down in a chair.
We are still waiting on information on when the restoration to our apartment can begin. We've been living with an open ceiling, a subfloor, and various other signs of the flooding damage for just over a month.
The management company is doing their best, but the property owner is a a micromanaging fuckboy who doesn't like to share information.
So.
The biggest concern right now is that my insurance agent has said, "In my experience, contractors always need a week more than they quote you. Literally, I have never had a situation where it hasn't happened."
This is excellent information. Except that we leave for Emerald City Comic Con on August 17, and we've been told 1-2 weeks for restoration.
Which we'll have to move out for.
And we usually have our dogsitter just crash at our place with Bean because it's the least stressful option for Bean. But if we have to be out of the house for repairs, we can't do that. We MIGHT be able to arrange a double room at the hotel we'll need to stay at so the dogsitter can just stay at the hotel with Bean, but we're also not going to require that of them.
I'm going to call a kennel we've used before. They did great with Bean, and while I would prefer she be able to stay home where she's most comfortable, I know they'll do a good job.
Everything flooded on June 27th. The owner showed up a week late with the estimator, then told me 15 minutes before a second estimator showed up that there'd be a second one. There's filler in the 100+ year concrete floor that's been cracking consistently in the last couple of weeks, and I'd just like a confirmed fucking schedule.
As far as I can tell, we still don’t fucking have hot water, even though it was supposed to be back yesterday. And building management hasn’t answered my emails...
So I guess I’ll go freeze my ass off, because I NEED to wash my hair. And if we don’t have hot water by tonight, I’ll march my damn ass down to management and ask them what the fuck is up. It’s been six days.
