HOFFMAN DIDN’T TRUST LAWRENCE, plain and simple. He seriously doubted the doctor had what it takes to truly carry on John’s work. And, quite frankly, he didn’t particularly LIKE Lawrence, either.

“YOU KNOW my secret, doctor.” His jawline tightened. He knew Lawrence wasn’t talking about the secret of him being an apprentice, but Hoffman would be damned if he told the doctor ANYTHING ELSE about himself, so he’d play dumb. “You know, there aren’t supposed to be SECRETS in marriages. Does your wife know?” He didn’t even know if they were still together, but if Lawrence wanted to rile him up, two could play that game.

There was blood all over the place and all over Billy himself. He had raged out and took it out on the poor victim on the floor. “Why even bother?” He scoffed but he wasnt in the ghostface get up this time so he probably should move the body. “Whatever.” He sighed and picked up the legs so Lawrence could get the arms. 

“Dont expect a thank you. We probably could of left it and it would just be assumed it was another Ghostface murder or some shit.” He said, blood dripping from his face.

WELL, THAT WAS RUDE. Peter’s eyes narrowed in mild annoyance at the other’s comment. “Not until today. Most people RESPECT what I do.” His tone was laced with anger, though he tried not to show it. He didn’t much care what other people thought of him, but the fact that it was coming from Lawrence of all people boiled his blood. Or maybe he was just on edge.

“If you have something to say…” Strahm stepped forward, looking the man in the eyes. “SAY IT TO MY FACE. Doctor.”

IMPOSSIBLE was a such strong word — one which, in this context, was unwarranted. John leaned forward, the hint of a grin on his face as he looked his apprentice in the eyes. “Have you FORGOTTEN what happened in that bathroom?” He slowly stood up from his seat, suppressing a grunt, managing to keep the smile on his face despite the pain aching through his body. “YOU FAILED YOUR TEST, Lawrence — and yet, here you stand, alive and well.” Other than his foot, of course. “I know your mind, Doctor — filled with logic and facts — but FAITH is stronger than that. And I have faith in you.”

He took a step closer, the smile fading from his face, showing that he was completely serious. “DO NOT BE AFRAID. I will help you, as I’ve helped you before. But YOU must be the one to take the first step.”

THAT CHECKED OUT. Adam let out a tired sigh, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, allowing his body to rest against the wall. He wasn’t hurt that badly; it was his DIGNITY that was wounded more than anything else. “Well, here I am.” He shrugged lightly, acting as if the now-broken camera in his hands was NO BIG DEAL. As if that hadn’t been his life savings and his main source of income. God dammit.

“They fucking BROKE it.” Annoyance laced his tone, but in a way, Adam figured he might’ve deserved it. He’d had doubts about how he made his money before; it was NOTHING NEW, but maybe this was supposed to be his wake-up call. They hadn’t just broke his camera; they’d probably broken his nose, too. Somehow, the injury hurt less.

“I… I gotta get home.”

     𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬  𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞  𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐧𝐞𝐰  𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧  𝐨𝐟  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩  𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐬𝐨  𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫  𝐭𝐨  𝐡𝐞𝐫,     it  truly  was  some  of  john’s  best  work  and  she  could  understand  why  he  would  want  to  use  it  again  to  test  hoffman.     the  man  thought  he  could  do  all  of  this  and  go  untested,  he  really  had  another  think  coming,  he  thought  he  was  out  there  alone,  doing  all  of  john’s  work  and  he  had  no  idea  what  was  going  to  come  his  way.     the  decision  was  up  to  them  on  what  happens  next  and  she  knew  on  one  hand,  he  had  to  tested  fairly  and  given  a  chance  to  prove  he  had  what  it  takes  to  survive.     but  they  both  know  how  dangerous  he  is.     as  much  as  she  wanted  to  honour  john’s  legacy  and  no  longer  go  back  to  her  old  ways,  she  also  knew  that  mark  hoffman  was  too  dangerous  to  be  left  alive.     the  way  he  was  orchestrating  john’s  games,  it  wasn’t  what  john  would  have  wanted  and  they  knew  that.     but  she  had  to  make  sure  that  her  and  gordon  were  on  the  same  page  on  this,      “     you’re  right.     but  you  and  i  both  know  that  hoffman  has  what  it  takes,  he’s  not  going  down  without  a  fight,      ”     she  admits,  looking  from  the  reverse  bear  trap  to  gordon,  dark  hair  falling  over  her  shoulder  as  she  rests  her  hands  on  the  table,      “     he’s  dangerous  and  he  will  come  after  us  and  he  won’t  stop.     he  already  tried  to  make  sure  i  wasn’t  around,      ”     and  it  almost  worked.     she  almost  lost  her  way,  she  almost  let  herself  get  caught  up  in  her  emotions  and  she  vowed  to  not  let  that  happen  again.     that  was  until  now.     she  would  not  let  herself  be  guided  by  her  fear,  but  she  knew  that  if  they  gave  him  a  real  chance,  they  would  be  the  ones  spending  the  rest  of  their  lives  looking  over  their  shoulders,      “     i  know  i  said  i  was  done  rigging  the  traps,  that  we  needed  to  let  everyone  have  their  chance.     but  he  doesn’t  deserve  it.     he  will  kill  us  and  he  will  not  have  a  learnt  a  single  thing,      ”     looking  back  at  the  trap,  letting  out  a  deep  breath  and  she  shakes  her  head,      “     but  i  think  we  both  know  what  needs  to  be  done  here,  right?      ”

amanda  knows  lawrence  is  right.  god,  she  knows  he’s  right.  no  matter  how  much  they  may  want  to  get  out  of  it  all  deep  down,  there  is  no  escaping  this.  never.  the  jigsaw  apprentices,  with  their  fucked  up  traumas,  with  their  fucked  up  attachments  to  john  kramer  ...  they  can  never  be  done  with  it.  the  man  changed  HER  life,  but  no  one  else  ever  seems  to  change.  the  traps,  the  games  —  they’re  all  beginning  to  feel  pointless,  a  waste  of  time.  the  urge  to  leave  is  there,  settled  in  the  back  of  her  mind  ;  dr.  gordon  says  those  things  though,  and  they  hit  home.  even  if  they  did  ever  leave  john’s  side,  they’re  still  all  guilty  of  SO  much.

her.  hoffman.  lawrence.  they’re  all  just  as  guilty  as  jigsaw  himself.

“  would  you  leave  if  you  could?  ”    amanda  asks,  nails  digging  into  palms.    “  do  you  ever  think  that  it  might  just  be  ...  EASIER?  ”
