An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Romano has a hard time falling asleep. Spain had just finished preparing for the next day. Spain hears crying coming from his spoiled little henchmen's room. What's this all about then?
Or
Romano misses his grandpa and Spain doesn't know how to deal with emotionally troubled children.
Nonromantic Spain and chibimano watching the sunset?
(You didn’t have to specify this as non-romantic but I assume you saw my frustration and did anyway. Thank you, I appreciate that kind of thing.)
“Hey, Romano!” Spain called, stood in the doorway of Romano’s room. “You should come see this!”
The young boy, currently curled up on his bed, opened his eyes. “You want me to move?”
“Come on, it’s worth it, I promise!” Spain came over to the bed, gently shaking Romano by the shoulder. He rolled onto his back, staring up at Spain with a scowl.
“No.”
“Okay then!” Spain said all-too-cheerily for Romano to believe that was that. Because it wasn’t. Next thing he knew, Romano was being lifted up and plonked down onto Spain’s shoulders. “How about this?”
Romano growled and rested his head on top of Spain’s. “Fine.”
“Great! Let’s go!” Spain made his way out, ducking down when he came to doorways so that Romano didn’t end up smacking into them. He walked along faster than usual for some reason, though it became apparent when they finally reached the outside why this was.
Romano, who had been slumped over, straightened up, his eyes widening. Before them lay a picturesque sunset, burning bright with the fiery colours one would expect from a place like Spain’s. The sky looked like brush-strokes on canvas, blending from blue to yellow to orange to red, where the heavens eventually collided with the sun. The crimson reflected onto the few dark clouds which embellished the view, creating a pinkish lining that was almost dream-like. Romano wondered if he’d woken at all.
“Wow.” He murmured, shifting about.
Spain, who’d been taking in the view before it could vanish into the night, glanced upward when he felt movement. “What are you doing, Romano?”
“Getting a better seat.” The boy replied, sitting atop Spain’s head instead. “See? Much comfier.”
“I don’t know about that…” Spain smiled sheepishly. He held Romano’s sides to steady him. “But as long as you’re happy.”
“Your shoulders are so bony.” Romano muttered, making Spain’s smile drop. “Your hair is fluffy.”
“Like the clouds?” Spain suddenly pointed toward the sunset. Romano yelped.
“Don’t let go of me like that!” He shouted, giving a few stamps of his little feet on Spain’s shoulders. The Spaniard laughed, placing his hand back on Romano’s side and squishing the boy’s stomach a little when he did, a silent gesture to show he wouldn’t let go again.
They remained like that, watching as the sun slipped beneath the horizon, taking the vibrancy of the sky with it shortly after. Spain sighed contentedly. “I guess you can go back to bed now.” He told Romano, about to turn around and go back inside.
“Wait, wait,” Romano said, rather calm as well. “Can we watch the stars come out too?”
“If you want to!” Spain smiled his warm smile, a contrast to the cold that had begun to settle in. “But you’re going to have to sit on my shoulders again, my arms are getting tired.”
“Fine.” Romano grumbled, shifting back down. “All the lifting you do all day and you can’t hold up a little kid for long? Pathetic. And where’s all the muscle on these shoulders, too?”
“Do you want me to take you back inside?”
“Fine, I’ll shut up.”
Headcanon that...
...when Romano was a kid he'd sometimes stay up late to wait on Spain whenever the other had work to do, and he'd pretend to be asleep so Spain would carry him back to his room. *\(^o^)/*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPAIN!!! (My Favorite Hetalian Guy~ )
Belgium & Romano decided to give the BOSS a kiss a present.
I was originally going to do Adult Romano, since that was my sketch from last year, but I decided to make him Chibi because he would be more willing to give Spain a kiss if Bel asked him to, plus I love Chibi!Mano more~
I had to push aside other projects to do this on time, it's still the 12th here. Now I want to finish at least one Valentine's drawing. I'm busy this month with drawings.
