Aphra Marsh from The Innsmouth Legacy is asexual!
GRYFFINDOR: “I am a Marsh. I will do things worthy of that name, not huddle in safety for the sake of bearing offspring. And if someone falls under my power -- however little that power may be -- I’ll use it to protect them.” -Ruthanna Emrys (Aphra Marsh: Winter Tide)
HUFFLEPUFF: “My family aren’t always nice, and they do what they must to protect their own. But they know that when the universe doesn’t care, someone has to. If we don’t care, we lose ourselves, even without Mad Ones changing our blood.” -Ruthanna Emrys (Aphra Marsh: Winter Tide)
Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys | Tor.com Publishing
@roachpatrol @castingmysilver @jumpingjacktrash @dracofidus This book is very probably relevant to all your interests and also I think it is REALLY GOOD. It contains deconstruction and subversion of Lovecraft, a badass and relatable lady heroine who is not a fighter and definitely not sexualised, no actual romance plots though a few of the secondary characters hook up during the course of the story (including one gay couple and one interracial couple), love of the written word, unflinching looks at human nastiness and human compassion both, a fantasy religion that feels like real and authentic spirituality, thoughts about how magic could have affected the Cold War, and foods that I want to try and that the author has promised to publish recipes for on Cookstr.
Also, fish people.
This is Ruthanna Emrys’s first published novel and there doesn’t seem to be any talk of it on Tumblr. I think we should change that because Winter Tide (and its prequel which you can read free on Tor, The Litany of Earth) deserve all the love!
