It’s really nice of you to ask!! 

A lot of my redeveloping of my plot recently has been centered around Felix and where he stands at the beginning. Before, I had the idea that he came from a truly immoral (for lack of a better word) family and magical branch, and ran away to a different branch, and considers them his new family. I ended up changing it that the branch he comes from has been completely exiled from civilization, but he deserted and maybe betrayed them or something that made the civilization let him stay with them. However he’s still not truly part of them because no one trusts him, and he’s not the type to change himself to fit in. He tries to join each other branch and learns a bit of their magic, but they each end up kicking him out because they assume the worst about him based on where he came from, so if he makes one mistake, they jump on it. I like this train of thinking because if I keep his motivation for the main quest the same--to clear his name after being falsely accused of murder, so that he can be un-exiled--he’s not just trying to go back to a previously ideal life, but eventually has to decide whether the lengths he’s going to are worth it for people who have always been waiting for him to fail.

What about you? If you don’t already have one in mind, I’m curious about Hailey and Elena. Does Laila immediately go to one or both of them when she realizes something weird is going on? Do they believe her immediately or are they skeptical?
