UGGHHHH
I'm trying to write about one of my lit crits and it is REALLY DIFFICULT. This guy is so bad at writing. He uses so many unnecessary words that people don't need to hear or even care about to say something so simple. (Haha yeah I get it, it sounds familiar, Riya. But I swear, he's like 80 times worse than me okay) But I'm really struggling with this because he doesn't even have a clear claim that he's trying to write about. He just has like 6 different elements that he keeps writing about, but everything he says is really unclear, because he doesn't have one central argument. I don't know if that's something that's acceptable in college writing or whatever, but it makes his thoughts extremely difficult to understand. Like ok I get that you're talking about affectiveness and indifference and bildung (have read it through 3 times and I still don't f-ing get what bildung means in his context because he keeps switching it around) but WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY ABOUT IT ALL??!!!!! I kid you not, his conclusion is exactly as follows: "I have sought to demonstrate what Ishiguro's novel can tell us about 'quality of life' as a biomedical concept, as well as how this scientific concept pertains to the wider discourses of socialization and professionalization that are found in the novel." Okay first of all, stop making up words, you jackass. Second of all WHAT DOES ISHIGURO'S NOVEL TELL US???????????? He literally NEVER answered this question clearly, because he doesn't have a central claim!!!! UGGHHHHHH I DONT LIKE THIS GUY. He needs a Richard Kreinbring AP Lang lesson
Blog #6 Post All-Nighter
I've got a general introduction draft. It's not perfect. It's definitely gonna get ripped a new asshole once it's edited. But it exists.
Blog #5
So it is now as I buckle down for what I hope to be a productive all-nighter that I find this weird process that we’ve taken in place of the 3 month schedule actually start to make sense. Regardless of the amount of time Mr. Kreinbring could have given me I’m certain that I’d be at almost exactly the same point I am now - just with an extra month or so of leisure time before I would realize the approaching deadline. NOW THATS NOT TO SAY THAT IM FEELING PREPARED RN EITHER BTW. The goal for tonight is to at the very least have a draft with all my thoughts strewn across the general introduction and my alligning chunk being the weakest link that I have a semblance of an idea of what to do with.
Roadblock (Blog# 4)
So at this point I’m 95% sure my aligning has a couple - possibly major - problems but I’m willing to put that off for a little bit as the beast I really want to tackle is currently the general introduction. I’m getting too hung up on how to get it started and my ideas are just scattered around for what I want to talk about. The goal is to have a draft by Tuesday in some form or another. Hopefully.
Essay Update
So its been about a week since I’ve even looked at my essay but I feel like I’ve got the productivity recharged and ready for this final sprint of a general introduction. I do need to re-annotate the chunks I used for my explications just for the sake of neatness and redo my introduction for them but its looking pretty not bad right now.
SO i’m finally getting around to editing my lit crit essays, because I was afraid to because I thought they were going to be terrible and very difficult to edit and that i might have to rewrite it all and i didnt want to do that becus I’m lazy. But then, I realized that they aren’t that bad and that this will be okay and that I don’t really have that much to worry about. This project is coming together. graduation is in sight. wow
Also, in my search for background sources, I came across these videos of Ishiguro speaking about his book, and HE HAD THE SAME IDEAS AS ME WHILE HE WAS WRITING HIS BOOK. i know youre not really supposed to say this because “there is no right” (said in a contemptuous voice) but I GOT IT RIGHT. I had the right idea. He’s writing about the human condition. What humans are like and how messed up and complex and special we are. He’s exploring what humans value when their lifespans are cut in half and they know it, and he comes up with the fact that we value love and friendship and companionship. And that’s super complicated because there are so many emotions to be dealt with that go with love. There are so many i cant even tell you. Love is terrible and great. Ok sorry personal drama aside. He’s also exploring truth, and what humans do when they learn the truth, how they cope with it and how they keep going, ONCE AGAIN looking at the emotions that surround that and how that makes us human. Wow. i love this book. 10/10 recommend. I actually just recommended it to Tanya Metha tonight, that was fun. She’s gonna read it. Im excited i hope she likes it
Wow
okay Ishiguro is kind of full of himself. I’m looking at background sources right now, and I have like two that I know for sure influenced him. I’m looking for my third, sorting through interview after interview and through his blogs, but everywhere, he denies anything really influencing his writing. It’s like he’s saying everything comes from within. Occasionally, he’ll say something like “yeah that may have influenced me subconsciously, but not really, I just kind of put myself into the character’s shoes and write.” Like okay sure. I’m going to keep looking because surely, he can’t be THAT arrogant. But yeah, I’m having trouble with this background source part. Thank god it’s only like 10% of the project. #priorities
i also really wish i hadn’t waited until the last day of break to work on this stuff. i’m the queen of bad decisions. but then again, Kreinbring did say to take a break. oh well hope i can still graduate
