AM I THE OBLY PERSON WHO WROTE OLIVER??
from my kitchen table
Hi! So writing this paper has actually been the hell I never knew existed, yet I really enjoyed it at the same time? Let’s start from the beginning.
This paper scared me so bad. I think a lot of the fear came from me getting in my head about doing it right and actually being able to write a reformed argument about my book. Those are completely logical fears though. I started to feel better once I found some gold literary criticism that I could really work with.
I’ve found that this process is all about trusting yourself. Writing the literary analysis was one of my favorite parts because I just canceled all my fear and just wrote- and I’m really proud of what I ended up producing. I felt like I made esteemed arguments and backed up my sources really well.
This project overall is really stressful because you and your classmates are all at completely different stages, doing completely different things. It’s so easy to compare yourself to everyone else and freak yourself out because your classmate transfered theirs to the computer and you haven’t yet.
My paper still needs a lot of work, but the skeleton is there, and I’m really proud of it. I feel most confident about my literary analysis, and the least confident about my explications of my quotes, but there will be another post about that specifically later :)
Mr. Kreinbring, I’m grateful we did this. Even though it’s really scary, I feel really stretched as a writer and a thinker and I know that I’ve grown a lot from this. Let’s just hope my final grade agrees LOL.
Who thought the cave would come back?
Re-reading my criticisms I noticed that one of the dudes that wrote one was obsessed with Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Like dude chill. I went back to my trusty wnb (always there for you) and looked over my notes. Since I did that I can say for sure that I have concluded two things. 1. My handwriting is getting progressively worse and 2. Fahrenheit 451 is a lot like Allegory of the Cave??? Shocked I didn’t notice the parallels sooner but wow. Kinda wishing that I could be writing about my secondary sources right now because I could go ham on that paper. I am going to bottle my sudden excitement about writing this, take a few notes on the main points I want to talk about later. And go to bed?
Walking....Debatable(R&W #3)
I hate annotating and it’s not even funny. I get that its a huge part of the process, but keep finishing part after part of this project and I feel like it's never going to end. I know that this assignment isn’t meant to be a walk in the park, but I’m getting frustrated with almost everything. Trying to connect my criticisms to one another, how they relate to Achebe’s writing, and what I’m getting from the novel itself. I just feel like I’m on overload, and I literally don’t want to deal with it anymore. But, I plan on walking so….guess I better get back to my paper.
Btw, the flute is supposed to represent my diploma.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s the writing
Starting writing was painful for me because I didn’t have a clear idea of what the book was really about. When we began writing in class I wasn’t even sure what to say because there was no specific theme that I knew I wanted to talk about. However, we write to find out what we think. As I started writing I found myself being very repetitive but only touching the surface of what I was trying to say. At one point we switched notebooks and Aisha gave me feedback on my writing. She told me she thinks what I’m trying to get at is each characters identity and how it changes and what it says about them. This was the word I had been looking for, identity. Now that I had a “claim” it became a lot easier for me to find evidence and put what I wanted to say into words. I still am having a lot of trouble with being repetitive, but have a much clearer idea about my writing. However, I’m STRUGGLING with the lit review section. I have many different ideas that don’t relate and have no idea how to organize them. I went back and wrote intros relating to all of my body paragraphs, but it seems choppy and awkward. After conferencing my new plan is to create an overview to my lit review and put transitions between each new idea to show what how my ideas are organized in my head. Hoping to bring that hot 50 up!! :)))
Cider House Rules #6
This one never posted🙃
So Gracie and I decided to go to the library right after school since we have release. We went, and in the first 5 minutes we got lost. I’ve never been to that section of OU before so it was a struggle to find the library, and then it was a struggle to find a parking spot. When we finally got to the library that’s when the mess started. We went to the front desk and asked about literary criticism and we got sent to the research desk. The research desk was the worst. We were talking to the librarian at the front and she was very confused as to what we were asking for. I had to keep writing down what I was looking for and she told me that she couldn’t find any criticism but we should check this section. So Gracie and I went up to the third floor and found an ENTIRE SECTION of literary criticism. Multiple books. A lot of books. So we forgot our wallets in the car and didn’t have any money to print, if it even costed money. So we sat in the corner of the library and took 50 pictures of our book pages. We then went downstairs and asked the same librarian if we could have computer access, she was then super confused that we weren’t students at OU. So then she sent us back to the first desk for computer access and then all of the computers were full and it was just a mess. I still couldn’t print so I just emailed all of the criticism to myself😭 And then we went to Starbucks and they forgot Gracie’s drink😭
Overthinking LITERALLY Everything
Now if you’re in second hour, you know that I have asked like 5,000 questions on this project. That’s simply because I overthink everything. If the whole thing doesn’t make sense in my head, I freak out internally and ask lots of questions. I’m a perfectionist and want to do things right. I have fears of spending hours on something only to find out I’m doing it wrong. Although I have asked lots of questions, I have experienced lots of growth in this issue. I’ve made decisions on my paper that I felt may be wrong, but I still did it with more confidence than ever. I realized in all this that nothing is really right or wrong. As long as I’m arguing well and articulating what I want to say, then I’m doing everything write. I need to remind myself I’m a good writer and can do this:)
The Final
I feel as though there’s some truth behind when Mr. Krienbring says “It’s the day before. Ya either got it or ya don’t”. Truth is I’m burnt out. I’ve printed out my 18 page paper. And I’m not really sure how well I’ll do. I hope I can graduate High School. I’ve put so much effort into this paper and I hope it can pay off. Last time I turned it in he said it was a C so Im #hopingforthebest.
It was alot of fun being with you Amir. Your story is one that not many people get to see from your side of the ocean. Thank you Khaled Hosseini for writing this awesome book. And thank you Mrs. Jodi Allan for recommending it to me! We’ll see what tomorrow has in store. Peace!
