How’s everybody doing?
Time for a “Quarantine has sapped my will do do anything consistently including washing so things are getting desperate” photo shoot
Here’s some good apocalypse news: I made lava cookies and creme brûlée because the cookies need whites and the brûlée needs yolks it’s so efficient 11/10 breakfast
I’m reading this while having cereal for lunch. You’re definitely apocalypsing better than me.
How are we all doing, kids?
i'm 29 and i've never had a real full-time job--just a bunch of part-time ones. i quit the last one about a year ago and have been unemployed ever since. interviewing is The Worst and i feel like i'll never be hired anywhere, let alone someplace i actually like and can feel excited about. right now i'm feeling pretty hopeless and questioning all my life decisions. thanks for listening and giving me a place to vent; you're a mensch.
Interviewing IS the worst. My interview for the hat store was a literal trash fire, I honestly don’t know how they hired me.
I think interviewing is a skill like anything else. You have to practice and practice and practice to get it right. But it can be really hard to put yourself out there at first, KNOWING it’s going to be rough.
I will say that finding a job you like is a game-changer. Landing the hat store job gave me structure I sorely needed. It also gets me out of the house and socialising which is another thing I didn’t realise I needed until I had it regularly.
What I’m trying to say (very badly) is: don’t give up. If you can only handle a part-time position (like I can) that doesn’t mean you’re any less of a contributing member of society. It just means you work slightly differently to most - and that’s fine.
The interviewing will be a fuck, but you’ll own it over time.
And hey, if regular work just isn’t for you, that isn’t the end of the world either. When I was sick I kept busy with gig and freelance work. Everyone has passions and skills, you just need to figure out what yours are and run with it.
If you need to talk further, hit up my inbox or my chat. I’m always good to field a vent sesh <3
I accidentally myself by commenting on a post of a lesbian community site on facebook that I thought was private but apparently isn’t 🤦♀️ My brother gave me a heads up shortly thereafter and I deleted it but not knowing who else stumbled upon it in their timeline makes me super nervous. Not that it’s really a big deal, I have a liberal family but that wasn’t exactly the way I planned for my coming out 🙄
Oh noooo, that sucks, I’m sorry :(
If it helps at all, my coming out was a bit of a trash fire as well. I was being teased at school for being a lesbian (aaahhh the suburbs....) and one day I just sorta snapped. It went something like:
Them: Hey lesbo Me: BISEXUAL. IF YOU’RE GONNA SPREAD A RUMOUR SPREAD THE RIGHT FUCKING ONE.
So I came out AND got sent to the office for my foul mouth. Winning!
Love that you're doing apocalypse check ins! Physically I'm doing okay, emotionally I'm riding a hellish COVID Rollercoaster! Just found out yesterday that my sister in law's partner likely has COVID. Which sucks especially because all my in-laws (mother, father, sister, niece, and sister's partner) live together and I adore them. It sucks to know that I can't do anything to help them. How are you doing?
Oh nooo that does suck! I hope everyone comes out of it okay.
I’m doing relatively okay. My lack of schedule is playing havoc with my mental health but I’m trying to keep myself busy as best I can. That’s meant a lot of art and writing.
Queensland is also easing restrictions at the moment so I’m going to be back at work once a week starting Friday. On the one hand, YAY GETTING OUT OF THE HOUSE. On the other... I’m seriously side-eyeing easing the restrictions too early. I’m super worried we’re just going to trigger a second wave of this bullshit.
how are we doing? i'm unemployed and worried about making rent. how are you doing?
God, I wish they’d just freeze every fucking thing already. It’s bad enough worrying about getting sick let alone stressing about our capitalist hellscape as well.
I’m doing okay for now. The hat store’s still open (for now) but I am on reduced hours. Once my leave runs out I’m a little up shit creek as far as making rent. I’ve been looking into some other ways to make money as a result.
I’ve been thinking I ought to make a master post on that actually. Give people some tips and tricks for monetising their hobbies in this time of uncertainty. Would y’all be up for something like that?
