Um... Hey. This is kind of dumb but I've just seen that anonymous bud who was talking about mythology and stuff and... Well, I read The Song of Achilles a while ago and since then I want to read the original Iliad but as you might know there are LOTS of versions of the Iliad which are published by a great variety of publishers and translators as well and I don't know which one is the best? I mean, I would appreciate if you'd link me a good one on Amazon or Book Depository. Please? (▰˘◡˘▰)
nonono this is not dumb at all!
I forgot the version that I read sadly but anyways, I think these three are the most praised and I’ll include a snippet of the first page and I suppose you can get a feel for all of them and see which one you prefer to read** These might be slightly different based on the book you get cus there’s been a lot of changes!!Putting this under a read more cus it get’s sorta lengthy. Anyone can add onto this if you send me a message :)
People say that the Richmond Lattimore translation is really straightforward and captures the traditional meaning of The Iliad. This is also the hardest out of all three but his language really captures the mood."Sing, goddess, the anger of Peleus’ son Achilleus and its devastation, which put pains thousandfold upon the Achaians, hurled in their multitudes to the house of Hades strong souls of heroes, but gave their bodies to be the delicate feasting of dogs, of all birds, and the will of Zeus was accomplished”
Unlike Lattimore’s translation (which is written in prose), Robert Fagles writes in a more poetic (but not rhyming) manner.
”Anger be now your song, immortal one,Akhilleus’ anger, doomed and ruinous, that caused the Achaians loss on bitter lossand crowded brave souls into the underglooom, leaving so many dead men - carrionfor dogs and birds; and the will of Zeus was done.”
And lastly, Stanley Lombardo's translation has been described as “visceral” and occasionally uses modern terms, so I'm not sure if that floats your boat? "Rage:Sing, Goddess, Achilles’ rage,Black and murderous, that cost the GreeksIncalculable pain, pitched countless soulsOf heroes into Hades’ dark, And left their bodies to rot as feastsFor dogs and birds, as Zeus’ will was done.”

Try using another format (90% chance it doesn’t make a difference but it’ll atleast narrow your search for the real problem)
I tried, it doesn't work for any format. I installed the latest version of quicktime, DivX player and some codecs that may be needed but... nothing happens.
