All I ask of you: A Polytrix Phantom of the Opera AU

The Paris Opera House is home to some of the best singers, exceptionally talented dancers and artisans, and the most exquisite productions to have graced the stage.  But legend has it that it’s also the home of an infamous and mysterious resident, a phantom that’s always blamed when something goes wrong. An accident here, an incident there: it must be the Phantom! For Zoey, a rising star in the opera, and Mira, the Opera’s newest patron, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. It’s the story of the Phantom of the Opera that you know of…or is it?

I commissioned the incredible @kinschi to draw this idea I had for this story that's been running in circles around my head.

Rumi felt like a contradiction. Put her in a room with a bunch of bad guys with guns, and she could clear them without breaking a sweat, and still have time to make witty puns. But being in an elevator with two pretty girls was enough to give her heart palpitations. And she didn’t do heart palpitations. She was a superhero, for crying out loud, she was- “This super woman!” With a start, Rumi yelped. When two pairs of eyes focused on her, she shrunk under the attention, and cleared her throat. “Sorry about that. Thought I saw a spider. What were you saying Zoey?” Zoey grinned. “I was just telling Mira here about how this super woman was saving the day just downstairs!” Mira nodded along. “I know, the truck and the hero practically wound up in front of me.” Internally, Rumi was groaning. How was this somehow the longest elevator ride she’d been on? Just when she thought she would die of embarrassment in this metal box, she heard the telltale ding, and thanked the stars for an easy out.

“We should have stayed with her,” Zoey finally said, breaking the silence as they continued swimming back home. Mira sighed. She had wanted to too, but… “We could see the other sailors approaching. They would’ve seen us otherwise.” “I know, I just feel bad,” Zoey added in a small voice. Reaching to her side, Mira took Zoey’s hand in hers and kissed the back of it. “Hey, we saved her, that’s what’s important.” Zoey giggled at the gesture, and hummed. “I guess.” “Besides, we won’t ever see her again,” Mira added in a more serious tone. “What? Why?” Zoey immediately stopped and straightened herself, getting Mira to do so too via their joined hands. Mira looked at Zoey, baffled. “Uh…because of the clear and obvious reasons?”

Surprisingly enough, Rumi said, “Maybe we could do a compromise? I’m with Mira on respecting our privacy, but I also know how much our fans love when we’re honest and open. So we won’t announce it, but if we get an interview asking us about who we’re dating, we won’t lie, deal?” Mira gave an appreciative nod. It was a good solution. Zoey squealed. “Perfect! Oh my fandom friends are gonna freak!” “I think they’d freak more if they knew they were talking to you, Zoey,” Mira teased. “To-may-to, to-mah-to,” Zoey commented dismissively, switching to the English phrase to prove her point. “I’ll live vicariously through their excitement.”
