Application Deadlines Are Approaching!!
All over the country this is a huge week of senior high school students putting finishing touches on their January 15th college application deadlines! At F&M this is the date that the Early Decision 2 and Regular Decision applications are due. In this process there are various things that you can do to help prepare and strengthen your application!
Applying Early Decision 2 is a great choice if you know that F&M is for you! It is binding (which means that if you apply this way and are accepted, you must go to F&M). Making this change still gives you the January 15th deadline, but it also gives you a better chance of being accepted. The Early Decision acceptance rate is several percentage points higher than the Regular Decision rate.
While applying students make sure you remember that F&M is holistic when reading applications. They will accept artwork, photographs, youtube links, and other extras as part of your application so that they are able to really see what type of student you are. Also remember that test scores are optional!! This means that you do not have to submit your SAT/ACT scores if you are not completely satisfied with them. Instead of these score you can submit writings of your choice that you feel represent you as a student better.
Demonstrated interest at F&M is very important! Although it is important that you are in love with the school you choose, there are various things that you can do to show the school that you are interested in them! By visiting, scheduling an interview, emailing your regional dean, applying Early Decision 2, asking questions, and showing that you know about the school and what type of student you would want to be here, you let our admissions office know that you really want to be accepted to go here.
When working on your application and showing interest in the school you are able to reach out and contact your regional dean of admissions. This set of faculty can help you with questions about applying and making a connection with yours can help you feel more comfortable with your application process. Introducing yourself to your dean, whether in person or through email can also show your demonstrated interest in the school. Your initiative when contacting them does not go unnoticed and can really show the admissions office that you like F&M! Finally, if you haven’t had a chance yet, need that one extra boost, or really want to get a better feel of what it is like here at F&M, it is not too late to visit campus before deciding to choose Early Decision or Regular Decision. Even if you are not able to come to F&M you can visit http://www.fandm.edu/admission/apply/virtual-tour for a virtual tour of our beautiful campus.
I wish you the best of luck in this process! For other admission advice you can visit http://www.fandm.edu/admission/admission-advice.
