This is an Anne appreciation post >:O. I don't talk about her a lot 'cause I don't have much to add to her characterization, but from a storytelling pov, she really is - dare I say it - a perfect protagonist for this type of story. At least, I think so. She certainly isn't flawless, but her flaws aren't as pronounced as Sasha's and Marcy's. But despite that, she still grows a lot throughout the series! Its just in such small increments. The last-episode Anne is certainly more independent and stronger then the first-episode Anne, which becomes incredibly clear when you directly juxtapose the two.
If the series circled Marcy, it'd get boring as she has no real motive - in the sense of the narrative, not her character. Sasha, on the other hand, just as strong of a motive as Anne in a narrative sense, but she isn't nearly as amicable as Anne, as well as her surroundings not being nearly as conducive to conveying the inner workings of the species-based caste systems and the really quite fascinating inner workings of said system, as well as - in general - teaching us about the world. The series following her would have trouble easily conveying the world's inner machinations, and would suffer from it (imo).
Idk if that makes any sense lol. I just don't want ppl to think I don't like Anne as much as Sasha and Marcy, cause I do. I just talk about characterization and the such and I feel like I have nothing to the add to the discussion around Anne's lol.
