After the events of Saw V, Mallick thinks maybe he’s been offered a second chance. He sees how the system has failed, he knows that he should be in prison. But for him it isn’t so much about justice as it is about redemption, no matter what Hoffman tells him. So he tries his best not to let the horrors of what he’s doing eat him alive and lets the man who destroyed his life rebuild and reshape it. There has to be purpose here, and Hoffman is going to show him how to find it.
