You Me At Six (02/04/2012)
Ahhh it was literally so perfect!
Me and my friend Katie got the train to London Victoria and grabbed some food before getting the tube to Brixton - we arrived just after 3pm so we had a 4 hour wait.
Just as we got there I spotted Max taking something from a van and then having a cigarette about 15ft away from us, I was literally almost dying at this point, but we couldn't go over because of security guards and people taking things from the van (we'd just be in the way) so instead I fangirled from a distance.
About 2 hours (I'd say) before the doors opened there was some commotion at a couple of the windows at the side of the venue (I already knew that this was the room that the band were in to hang out pre-show because of being at the venue before and watching videos afterwards), all of a sudden a signed booklet flew out of the window onto us lot waiting in the crowd. Then about 5 or so minutes later Matt stuck his head out of the window, stuck his tongue out at us and scanned the queue with a camera (fingers crossed we appear in the tour diaries!). That was the last from the band for now. A little later, workers for Brixton O2 Academy gave out free oyster card holders to people that were near the front of the queue (I got one woooo).
Finally the doors opened and we were allowed to go in, I had my bag searched and they almost discovered my hidden water bottle - but I just got away with it! Then we went to the merch stand and I bought a Sinners Never Sleep vest top and signed tour booklet with a wristband. Katie bought the booklet bundle and a hoodie. Then we made our way down to the standing area - we decided then that it would be a good idea to use the bathroom, so we did before getting back into the crowd (we were quite close) and then decided to push (just a bit) to get closer - it worked.
First up were The Skints - they really weren't what I expected but they were good none the less. The bass player had some swag though! And you could feel the vibrations through the whole of your body which was strange - I didn't expect that and I wasn't sure if it was because of that particular band or because of how close to the speakers we were (I later realised it was the band). During this Katie noticed Max in the box opposite the stage so we turned and were staring at him and finally a couple of other girls noticed him too (there were about 6-8 of us in total that actually noticed in the end) then Max disappeared but then we saw a guy being all cuddly and kissy and dancing with some blonde girl and someone was asking if it was Josh because it didn't look like him, then he turned his head slightly and I was like that's Josh "I'd put money on it" (I am 1000000000% sure it was him, I couldn't be more sure if I tried), and couldn't help but turn to Katie and say "Why isn't that me?".
Next were Mayday Parade - they were amazing; I knew most of the songs they played but was disappointed at how short their set was. BUT they played Black Cat and that's my favourite song of theirs so I screamed my heart out and it was perfect.
Then it was Kids In Glass Houses - I hadn't listened to them properly before, just the odd song or two and found that I only knew one of the songs they played, but they made me want to check them out a bit more so I shall do! The moshing was crazy during KIGH it was so squashed and was mental! Also we were trying not to squash these girls behind us especially as one of them gets claustrophobic (during YMAS she came out of the crown with a tear in her eye after having a panic attack!)
Finally You Me At Six came on and it was just pure perfection, amazingness on a whole new level! They started with Loverboy and it was just a sea of jumping fans, then they played Little Death and it was just beautiful, next up was Safer To Hate Her, Trophy Eyes and The Consequence - it was nice to get some of the songs from Hold Me Down in there, I especially loved Trophy Eyes live. Then they played a couple of songs from TOYC, they actually played Take Off Your Colours and then Finders Keepers, I was ecstatic when Finders Keepers came on because it's my favourite song so I sung my heart out and filmed almost the whole of the song and was so happy that I was seeing it played in front of me whilst being around 3-4 rows from the barrier. Then they played The Swarm, I knew almost all of the words and just rocked out. Next they played The Dilemma which being the first song from SNS that I heard (besides Loverboy but that doesn't count because it was released before SNS) was bringing back the memory of how I was trying to cram in the all the lyrics to the 12 songs off the album back in October before I saw them 12 days after the album was bought out. Then it was Liquid Confidence, it was nice to slow things down a little so I could breathe a bit better but still an amazing song. Next there was a pause between songs and Josh had a little speech: "Some people meet the people they're going on to marry, that's fucking awesome. But most of us are wasting our time, and a few months later you realise how the person's a total dick. Thus my conclusion is why don't you just get drunk with your friends instead. Talking of friends, in my 21 years, I'm sure these boys will agree, we've all had our fair share of friends that have put the knife in the back and I don't get it to be honest with you, 'cause why would you want to fuck over your friends? So bare that in mind next time you think about sleeping with your best mates girlfriend, don't do that. There's no point in doing that. But third, most importantly, when you are young you can be as reckless as you want!" - cue the song Reckless in all its glory. Next Josh dedicated No One Does It Better to Matt's mother because she was celebrating her birthday all I could think was 'aaaw that's cute'. Then they played Crash, I got part of this on film but just sung my heart out for the rest of it purely because I love the song so much. Then YMAS disappeared off the stage before coming back for the encore (after the crowd chanting "You Me At Six, You Me At Six...") of Underdog - I love Underdog live, it's the perfect song for an encore, then they played Stay With Me - it was beautiful I wanted to cry and I actually felt like I was singing to the band to stay on the stage and carry on playing! I was so emotional (but I didn't cry!). Then I thought it was all over but then they burst into Bite My Tongue! It was crazy and mental to the maximum and the perfect way to end the show, Josh's screaming was perfect, he's perfect, they're all perfect, it was a perfect night and a perfect show. I'm jealous of those who are there tonight and get to be there for the final show of the Sinners Never Sleep tour (mine was supposed to be the final show but then they added an extra date!) because it will be utter amazement tonight.
I had an amazing time last night but am not looking forward to the Post Concert Depression that's beginning to creep up on me! But finally, words can't describe how perfect You Me At Six actually are.
