Happy Walpurgisnacht
a couple hours ago @faustitas-b told me about a review of Newsies OBC they saw where someone was complaining because Jack said the word “bastard” and how much better ‘92 was and I’m still reeling over it because
Have you ever met a 17 year old
have you ever been a 17 year old
as a Jew, “bastard” is, like, the lightest, least creative insult I can imagine
an incomplete list of things Broadway cut out that were in ‘92:
the line “saturday night with the mayor’s daughter” accompanied by a hip thrust
the line “havana cigars that cost a quarter” despite one of the main characters still being a smoker
Les getting bet a quarter that he wouldn’t drink beer
all references to gambling, to the point where they changed a character’s name
Jack being a thief rather than being arrested for loitering and other unspecified crimes
Like, honey. ‘92 isn’t any cleaner.
