"Leave me alooone, Auntie."
Haleigh giggled as she leaned back on the sofa and held her hoodie tight to her neck.
She had gone to see Apryl to discuss Laura's job and keeping a close eye on her. But two minutes into their conversation Apryl noticed a few purplish red marks on her niece's neck and wanted answers.
"No, I'm not gonna leave you alone," Apryl laughed tugging at Haleigh’s hoodie. "I already saw it, you might as well let go."
After a few seconds Haleigh let her hoodie go, pouting.
"Mmm, I see you and light skin gettin along."
Haleigh shrugged. "If you wanna say that, I guess. We're just having fun, Auntie."
Apryl poked at the marks playfully. "Fun, fun or just fun?"
"Just fun. You know I don't wanna do that till we're married."
Apryl nodded and laughed. "Ooh I wish the other kids were like you, niece. And Simba better be like you, I'd hate to have to kill your uncle's baby."
Haleigh laughed loudly.
"Simba barely likes the girlfriend he has now. I doubt he's even thinking about that."
Apryl hummed in response. "Back to that lil hoe," she said sucking her teeth, "Why do I have to hire her? I wanna beat her ass."
"So did I but then I realized she had a baby and I couldn't do that to him," Haleigh sighed. "She needed help, I know it took a lot for her to ask us so Ardian and I agreed to help her out. He's gonna pay her rent for two months and I'll pay for two months so she can save money."
"Again, I ask. Why I gotta hire the hoe?"
Haleigh laughed and rolled her eyes. "The diner she works in isn't enough to take care of bills, her and her son. You pay good, Auntie. Plus she's signing an NDA but I wanna make sure she doesn't try anything."
"Oh so I'm the muscle behind y'all," Apryl scoffed playfully.
Haleigh patted her knee. "Auntie, let's not act like you won't hesitate to cut her if she steps outta line."
"That is true," Apryl agreed biting her lip. "If I put her on the schedule she has to work at any time I pick. She gotta earn the schedule she wants like everybody else had to. So who gon watch her baby?"
"Ardian and I are gonna watch him when we're not busy until she's saved enough money for another babysitter."
"Y'all babysitting or y'all playing house with her baby?"
"Babysitting, Auntie."
"Are you sure cause I've seen you and him with the trips especially Melody. Even when Simba stays with y'all. Hell," she laughed, "I forget I'm his damn mama when he with y'all."
Haleigh nodded listening to her aunt.
"I'm not sayin don't keep the lil booger, I'm just sayin don't make her feel like you're trying to take over," Apryl explained as soft as she could. "Cause you know you got that bossy shit from your Mama. I don't know who worse your ass or her ass."
"Yes, Auntie. We got it."
"You tell that lil hoe to be at the store in Millenia Mall tomorrow at 8am."
"The store doesn't open till 10 though."
Apryl squinted at her niece. "You actin slow like your brother. You think ima let her ass loose in my store without at least a lil bit of training?"
"Oooh," Haleigh nodded. "Didn't think about that."
Apryl shook her head laughing, "My cousin had some of the smartest, dumbest kids."
Haleigh looked at her phone and realized she was late meeting Ardian and Carlito. She hugged and kissed her auntie before getting up to leave.
"See you later, Auntie."
"Mmhm," she nodded, "Oh since y'all playin house add my child to the family this weekend. Me and ya uncle well be gone and he not stayin his ass here alone."
Haleigh agreed and left the house. She jogged to her car, calling Ardian as soon as she got in to let him know she was on the way.
