Tyreek Hill
The Supreme Court ruled in 1977 (look it up) that the police can legally ask you (driver) to exit your vehicle during a traffic stop. The police can also make passengers exit as the Supreme Court ruled on this in 1997 (look it up). However, you still have rights! You are protected against:
- Unreasonable Searches
- You have a right to record the stop.
- You have a right to know why you are being stopped.
- You have a right to an attorney
- It is advisable that you stay calm and that you are respectful. However, the absence of either of those does not negate your rights.
What is so fucked up about what happened to Tyreek Hill is that he was literally pleading guilty and surrendering (with his lawyer on the phone no less) before the officer even got to the car. He literally asks for the ticket and says “Do you what you have to do”. You can argue he was disrespectful to the officer but I think it’s entirely reasonable to be that way considering the value of the car and legally---that is irrelevant.
He is entirely lucky how this played out. We have witnessed Black men being shot and killed during traffic stops over MUCH less. We could very well be talking about RIP Cheetah today. Nothing Tyreek Hill did during that stop warranted him being dragged out of his car. The officer wanted to send a message “You do what we tell you to do, not what you want to do”. Message sent. Now his job should be lost.
Abolish the police. There is a better way. We must re-imagine their role in society to prevent these types of incidents and for our own safety. The police are an organized gang whose beliefs are informed by White supremacist thought. That is not wokeness, that is reality. They do not prevent crime and they do not protect us. They protect property owners and their own interests. We don’t need them.
All power to the people. Peace
