13.) Are you looking to pursue a career in art? Maybe! Drawing is already where the bulk of my money comes from anyway, but if getting a job in an artistic profession means that I can take on more challenging projects and work with creative people and do more cool things, then I’m definitely up for it!

Mm'kay! Questions 7, 18 and 24 for the lulz.

18.) What is your purpose for drawing? Sometimes it’s for my own entertainment/enjoyment, to try out something new, or to practise something that I’m not too sure I can draw that well. Lately it’s often been because I’m getting paid to, but that’s not to say that I don’t get a lot of enjoyment from those drawings, too!

12.) Have you ever considered taking commissions? I already do take commissions, quite frequently, in fact. It’s pretty much how I make end’s meet after I pay my rent.

21.) Do you believe there is such a thing as “bad art”? This is a difficult question to answer, but I’ll try. I think anything that is done with the intent to insult or belittle someone else, without there being any humor or alternative message behind it, is bad. I think that doing the same sort of drawing over and over without the intent to improve upon it or prove a point or something else that could be beneficial to you (financial or educational or otherwise) is bad. I think any art that is done as a direct copy of someone else’s work without being for your own education or without giving credit to the original artist is bad. A lot of art is bad, but a lot of it also falls into a grey area. idk man.

xvii: What would you absolutely refuse to draw? vii: Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site. :)

17.) Anything that is deeply morally wrong and has no artistic merit, or anything that I know I would do a horrible job on without having previously practised the shit out of drawing.

7.) This is tough because most things that would apply to this are character designs that I don’t think I can post yet. So here is something not-so-recent. It’s a human version of the poison-type Eeveelution that I did a while ago.

8.) What is your favorite piece that you have done? Fuck, I have no clue about this one. I’ve gotten into the habit of picking apart every drawing I do once it’s finished, then getting really unhappy and disappointed with myself if I look at it for too long. There are certainly a few pieces that I’ve done that I’m okay with, but most of the ones I actually like are the ones that I haven’t finished yet, as sad as that sounds. I love my works in progress because they still have that potential to be really good.

But if I absolutely have to pick a piece out as my favorite, I’m gonna go with my painting of the fortress Adamant. It’s unique in three ways: 1) It’s the first time I’ve ever drawn a building from textual description (instead of a person), 2) It was my first time ever seriously drawing a castle or fortress at all, and 3) I honestly can say that it came out of my head exactly as I imagined it.

19.) What medium/program do you use most in your art? I primarily use Photoshop CS6, but I’ve been using SAI a lot lately to do my lines in, sicne it makes everything smooth as fuck, and it has way less lag than PS.

23.) What do you think you could stand to improve on? Oh wow, nearly everything, honestly. I need to know how to draw things in perspective, how to draw foreshortened things, and to get over my fear of bright colors. I need to learn how to draw things quickly without obsessing over every tiny detail, and to actually be happy with a drawing once it’s finished. I need to find out how to draw interesting-looking comic pages with neat dynamic panels. I need to stop being afraid of negative space, and to use it more in compositions. I need to find out which colors look good next to eachother, and WHY they look good, and how I can pick them out myself without going on a fucking soul search when I find out that I’m really shit at doing that. I also need to figure out how to draw urban settings.

3.) Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.

5.) Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past? By necessity, yes. Most recently, I’ve had to adopt Linzb0t’s style while working on Teenage Pokemon to keep my designs in line with the show’s aesthetics. I also like to try out other cartoony styles on occasion to keep myself flexible.
