even through her closed door, she could hear the entire conversation in the living room. she recognized the voices as caleb and the other girl that’s been over a few times. holly could only hear fragments of the conversation, including her own name a few times, and the apartment door close. that’s when she finally came out and sat next to him on the couch. holly could tell he was upset. she grabbed his hand with both of hers, touching their shoulders together. “look, i’m really sorry.” that’s all she felt like she needed to say. she didn’t want to talk about it more, like he didn’t just already experience it all firsthand. “if you want, i think that rolled up ice cream place is still open. i can run down and get some for us, if you want. on me?” holly didn’t want to let go of his hand but, if he didn’t want to leave, she’d have to let go sometime.

        though the pink, pearlescent color wasn’t the most visible on his skin, it shone ever so slightly in the light when he turned his head. and there would be no mistaking it was hers among the other dancers that were in the back where she had been leaving kiss after kiss all over his face.

“  well ,  duh !  ”    smile  wide  spread  across  her  lips.  she  keeps  her  gaze  focused  on  him,  though  fingers  busy  themselves  adjusting  the  scarf  around  his  neck.  a  pause.  tip  of  her  head  to  admire  the  work.              before  deciding  it  needs  another  few  tweaks.     “  i  wore  this  thing  all  last  winter.  it’s  been  washed ,  obviously.  but.  i  made  sure  to  pull  it  out  of  storage  early  ...  enough  to  get  a  few  weeks  of  perfume  into  it.  ”    it’s  corny.  beyond  even.  but  the  shade  of  blue  really  compliments  his  eyes.  so  this  is  totally  selfish  of  her.     “  but.  you  have  to  give  it  back  when  it  smells  like  you ,  deal ?  ”
