One of the Biggest Challenges in the World Today
Fresh, clean water, gushing forth at the twist of a tap or the push of a button. Sound familiar? It’s easy to forget, in today’s busy business world, that the provision of this most basic resource – safe, clean water – remains one of the biggest global challenges facing human society. There is more in-depth information about this challenge in the attached video.
AquAid: A UK Company with a Global Solution
AquAid is one of the biggest providers of water to the UK market. They provide both hot- and cold-water products and services, and with over 30,000 clients nationwide, you’ve probably had a drink at one of their water coolers. They provide a top-quality service for some of the biggest names in the country, but they also provide a life-saving service in some of the poorest parts of the world.
Through donating part of the price of their sales to charity, AquAid has provided £14 million in donations, facilitating the provision of clean drinking water to over two million people in some of the poorest countries in the world.
AquAid began their work in partnership with the charity Christian Aid in 1998, and later went on to set up The Africa Trust in 2010. Learn more information about the work of The Africa Trust in the attached PDF.

The Need for Clean Water
The World Health Organisation estimates that nearly 600 million people do not have regular access to safe, clean water. Of these, 435 million draw water from unprotected wells and natural springs, while a further 144 million get their water from lakes and rivers. Since these sources are open to contamination by water-borne diseases, this is a major issue for the development of communities.
Sanitation is, of course, dependent on clean water. In hospitals especially, this has a major impact, with lack of access to clean water contributing to the development of in-hospital infections, a disproportionate number of which occur in developing countries.
AquAid’s Customers
The Mid Group is one of the UK’s fastest-growing construction companies. Chairman and founder Sahel Majali understands the importance of giving something back; that’s why he’s satisfied to know that his association with AquAid has funded a pump in an African village, providing clean water to the community. Learn more about the pump, called an Elephant pump, in the attached infographic.
What is the Elephant Pump?
Through the means of delivering excellent service to its many clients, including Holly Lodge School, British company Checkatrade, Mid Group and many others, AquAid is able to continue its vital work, supporting development in some of the poorest countries in the world.
