“well, that sure was A FLOP.” she only spoke once the room had cleared, with no one but kaldur around to hear; cissie didn’t mean to bring morale down, but she was never any good at keeping quiet either. as much as she appreciated the rest of the team’s efforts to be encouraging even in the face of failure, she wasn’t sure how helpful it actually was. “the bad guy still got away in the end     not much of a success, huh?”

arrowette plopped down on the nearest couch, a low, pained grunt slipping out. maybe there’s some success to be found in the fact that they left the battle quite hurt, but ultimately not dead. her attention shifted over to kaldur for a moment, choosing to put her complaints aside for now. “YOU ALRIGHT?”

dawn didn’t mind being alone,  but she wasn’t particularly fond of it either.  being alone meant she was the only one accountable if a mission went wrong ----- she was only a perfectionist when the mirror was held up.  but being alone also meant exactly that.  no one had her back.  there was no one to lean on.  she doesn’t acknowledge this with resentment,  no ;  this was her choice.  dawn likes working with others,  but in small,  intimate teams where she knows and trusts the people by her side.

 and now,  kaldur is by her side.  she trusts kaldur.  

it’s as simple as that.

 “Surprised? Its just...ah yes, ice cream.” sure he hasn’t touched oxygen since decades ago, but eating was a rare pleasure. He won’t let some meat ally ruin his moment.

                 she rises from the depths, an avenging angel. the chains round her arms and feet gone, slivered into nothings by the dagger, sharp and deadly and sun - beam bright in the palm of tandy’s hand. no, brighter. brighter, still. it’s blinding, like looking into a spotlight. or someones deepest, lightest, shiniest hopes. 

quizzically tandy stares at the dagger. it gleams brighter. power and confidence courses through her. it races with the taste of adrenaline. in her moment of despair, of fear and crisis, she’d saved herself. tyrone johnson can suck it. tandy is a survivor. and now, a master of her own powers. 

gasping as the numbness subsides and shock sets in, she swims to the shore. attempts to anyway. the dock is closer, but still too far. she didn’t think this through and the water’s cold as balls and damn it she’s stupid, so, so stupid.
