a quiet scoff left her lips at his words and she shook her head. “kid,” she started, “i think that’s how pretty much all of us live our lives at this point.” she made a mental note to herself to stop calling him kid. he was less and less of a kid with every passing day. in fact she was pretty sure the kid label should have been stripped the moment he witnessed his friend and mentor and teammate die right in front of him. he had gone through more than most kids, forced to grow up fast.
“that’s all any of us can do, right? just roll with the punches? you’re pretty agile. you should be good at that.” she smiled and gave a small nod. and if he or any of the rest of them got tripped up she would make sure she was there to help them out.
