Design and location for a memorial tablet for the Aquarium (Castle Clinton) in Manhattan, 1908.

The New York CIty Aquarium (pictured above), now the Castle Clinton National Monument in Battery Park, changed roles many times throughout the years. Prior to it’s remodel as the New York City Aquarium in 1896, the building served as an immigration landing depot for 34 years, prior to the opening of Ellis Island. During that time, over 8 million people, or two out of every three immigrants, were welcomed to the United States through this depot.
