A.R. Murugadoss is one of the busiest directors in Indian cinema. He’s just finished with Spyder, and has already jumped onto his next, a Tamil action thriller, with Vijay in the lead.

Murugadoss also wants to do a film with Salman Khan, but it won’t be a Spyder remake. “Salman has a huge following in Andhra Pradesh too. They would be disappointed to see him doing something they’ve already seen another superstar do. No, I will make only an original film with Salman.”

SPYDER MOVIE REVIEW

First thing first, for me SPYDER was a decent attempt.

As Prince Fan would definitely give Mahesh Babu a thumbs up. As usual Mahesh looks like a million buck and carries the role with panache. He is terrific in his role as an Intelligence Bureau officer, and he underplays his body language throughout the film.

Let’s talk about the good stuff first.

1. 5 minutes in, you know it won’t be a usual action film. For once the hero doesn’t dominate the story as what we usually see in our films. It isn’t a Mahesh Babu’s film alone. To see him step into the shoes of a character which doesn’t dominate the film is interesting.

Mahesh (Shiva) and surprisingly (can’t believe I’m acknowledging this) SJ Suryah (Bhairavudu) definitely takes the cake. Won’t be surprised to see if this was the big break SJ Suryah needed. He has done a splendid job.

2. There were some brilliant moments. Wouldn’t want to spoil it, but you will know surely when you watch it.

3. Bhairavudu’s backdrop story really makes sense why he is the way he is. Kudos for not being cliché. Perfectly describes “Some men just want to watch the world burn”

4. The use of the technology was well done. One scene where Mahesh will use thermal-imaging technology to trace people was nicely done.

5. There will be a point where Mahesh will be badly hurt because of Bhairavudu. That scene was done realistically (Instead of the hero just springing back to life even after being grievously injured as we have seen in Indian movies before)

6. Harris Jayaraj’s background score was good.

7. Mahesh taking the backseat and ladies doing the work (good, but unfortunately this would fall under the minus point too)

On the down side,

1. I feel the story doesn’t have the crisp or umph factor needed for a spy movie. As I said, it’s a decent attempt, but it could have been better. Predictable climax.

2. Songs like Ciciliya and Hali Hali were unnecessary.

3. Supporting characters like Bharath and Rakul, unfortunately don’t have much to offer.

4. The teasers showed a glimpse of somewhat of A.I/robot stuffs will be going on in the movie. NOPE. There was NIL. Technology used extensively, YES, A.I/robot NO.

5. There will be a part where Mahesh will hack into the entertainment channel and make the ladies run their ‘own covert operation’. Nah I didn’t connect with that.

To put the characters and movie in perspective, Shiva believes in humanity, Bhairavudu believes in destruction.

Having said this, I enjoyed this movie. Stepping stone for a movie of this genre. The movie pulled through decent enough to at least watch it once in theatres; for the sake of Mahesh and some good plots.

２０１７年のインド映画の映画祭、ＩＦＦＪ（インディアン・フィルム・フェスティバル・ジャパン）にて上映の「ＡＫＩＲＡ」（←大友克洋のじゃないですよ、念のため）を妄想ポスター化、元ネタは日本映画「女囚さそり・第４１雑居房」のポスターです。今回のは本編を歪曲してナンボか笑かしにかかってます、こんなに女囚女囚した映画ではないです。元ネタの「さそり」のポスターをわりかし忠実になぞって制作してますので、デザイン面での工夫は少なめ。あえて付け加えたトコロと言えば、 全体に血しぶきのようなシミ加工をまぶしてあるくらいです。元ネタの「さそり」ポスターがけっこうスタイリッシュなデザインで非常にスッキリしたデザインなのでコレがパロディだと分かっている方はともかくとして、元ネタを知らない方から見るとただのスカスカしたデザインに見えてしまう可能性が高いので、それを避ける対策として少し手を加えました。目ヂカラするどいヒロインが非道な権力と戦う「ＡＫＩＲＡ」と「さそり」。物語の精神性まで意識したワケではないですが、こうしてポスター化してみるとそこのとこまでうまいこと妄想でミックスできたなー、と思える一品です。
