Looking back to when I first started this blog, I don’t think I had any idea of new clashes that were to come.
The concept of dating has now totally changed for me. I feel like I’m starting to think more like a culturally Arab girl. I don’t find myself any longer dating to date. But I’m looking to date to marry.
This does not come with 0 consequences. When you date to marry, you become extremely picky. It’s no longer about who is going to treat you well, but you have to take so many things into consideration. First and foremost:
A) Is he Arab? If not...Is he willing to accept and be part your culture? (This also applies to religion)
B) Do you share the same morals and values?
C) How is his family? Will you fit in? Will he fit into yours?
D) Does he have a stable career?
These are only some of the questions I have running through my mind as I meet people. Mind you, its not like I’m out dating these guys left, right, and centre. But as I start to get a better sense of myself, I’m starting to get a better sense of what I want in a partner.
While I have never lived in an Arab country, I did grow up surrounded by the culture, and this has shaped me.
I feel like I am smack dab in the middle of a Middle eastern and Western culture, and the hardest thing about that is finding someone who shares that too. I always tend to see men as being one extreme or the other. How do you find someone who shares that middle point? Someone who has picked and chosen the same morals and values from both cultures?
