Hi! This might be a longshot, but I thought you might have more expertise than I do here. I found a pattern for a crocheted Mother Hubbard in Godeys, 1888. The yarn it calls for is "Starlight Fleur de Leis." Is that something you've ever run into? Do you have any guess about the weight/thickness?
I'm afraid I don't; I don't really knit or crochet. Although if they're crocheting an entire mother Hubbard in it, I'm guessing it has to be lighter weight? (For people who don't know, a mother Hubbard is basically the dress that fundamentalist Mormon women wear, but it was a mainstream fashion trend in the 1880s and 1890s. Actually considered somewhat scandalous to wear out on the street, because it looked like a nightgown which was meant for private wear indoors. A lot of people just straight up thought it was ugly, too, although for some who preferred very loose clothing, comfort trumped aesthetics)
(it was also used by missionaries in Polynesian countries to attempt to "Christianize" the clothing of the women living there. And in the complex way that cultural things sometimes process, even if they came from a place of colonialism, it's now been integrated into the national dress of some islands. )
