Laura Lima at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery
Brazilian artist Laura Lima’s installation Tailor Shop, currently installed at Chelsea’s Tanya Bonkadar Gallery, showcases labor and process as much as finished artwork. Working on one side of the main gallery, local tailors realize the designs Lima has created to ‘dress’ the empty frames hanging on the other side the space. Named after various people important to Lima, each frame will be clothed in a striking abstract garment as it is completed. (On view through April 4th). Laura Lima, Aracy, fabric, thread, wood, 21 ½ x 15 ¾ x 2 inches, 2019.
A letter from Aracy for all of you To print E-mail This teacher lives in Rio de Janeiro, the big city by the sea. To get to know more closely the problems of teaching among the little Indians, she came to spend two months at the Caiua Mission.
Aracy 20 – Les examens To print E-mail Suddenly a baby starts to cry. At the end of the evening, it would be much better at home!
Aracy 19 – Drugs To print E-mail - Ah! it's hot! Aracy sighs. Almost forty degrees in the shade! At home, you can at least shower as often as you want.
Aracy 18 – A can of Coke To print E-mail When braking, the Mission jeep pulls over to the right of the road. Aracy comes out.
