magic of the lost thoughts (spoilers)
thinking about how in the unbroken when djasha introduces luca and touraine to aranen as her wife and is just openly in love with her, luca's immediate mental response is that djasha has just made a mistake and revealed a weakness to her, something that she would have never done if she was in her position.
also thinking about how frequently djasha and aranen are set up as parallels to luca and touraine (especially in the faithless), and how while aranen never stops loving djasha more than anything, she so often cautions touraine against going down a similar path. she doesn't regret loving djasha, but she sees all the ways that it made her life so much harder than it would have otherwise been.
and god, this idea of love as a weakness is such an interesting theme in the series, because we have so much proof that love has been a strength too. the characters are so often saved because other people loved them- it's hinted at the end of the faithless that touraine and luca's love will be what rebuilds their nations. Love is both things at once, and I adore it.
