A personal milestone for a change, because its one of those rare times i feel good about working on something new :

What started off as a little S&B drabble, is now at ~17k words and not even half finished :)

Whether I manage to finish it is irrelevant; for me, this milestone matters, because I never expected I would be able to write anything, let alone something that can go into a full chapter fic.

Its funny because all it actually takes, is passion: be it for your OTP ( ie Aleksander/ Alina in my case), a theme you really love, or a prompt that just clicks.

I guess all Im saying is, do whatever makes you happy folks and dont let insecurity over your skills intimidate you out of it :) :) :)

4. what’s an inside joke you have with your family or friends?

Hmmm... I'm not sure if this can be classified as an inside joke, but sometimes my friends and I dramatically say "Grandma, it's me, Anastasia" whenever we walk into the room or whenever we want to show off a new outfit haha. (Oh, and also we say "Go away, Dimitri" whenever we don't like something 😂)

8. any reacquiring dreams?

I’ve had a very persistent recurring dream while I was doing my Bachelor’s and Master’s, and it was always about me being late for some exam and not knowing anything about the subject I had to study (that’s anxiety for you, ladies and gentlemen).

11. what do you consider to be romance?

Ooooh… the first thing that comes to mind is warmth. This very warm and tender feeling that blooms in your heart, a delicate string that connects you to another human being. It’s being supportive, being your partner’s biggest fan, being loyal even in the smallest things. For me romance is not connected to some grand gestures, but it’s more about small things and little wonders that you create and that you share.

I’ve never been in a romantic relationship, and I don’t think I’ve ever been in love… which is kinda funny, because I adore stories about love, but I’ve never experienced it myself.

Ooof, this might be a little difficult because since I haven’t read the books I can only go by what the show and Jessie and Ben’s performances gave me, but... I’ll try?

I touched on this in my latest ficlet but I kinda believe he wanted to tell her the truth when he took her to the fountain. I mean, the scene basically existed to serve the audience some exposition, but the way Ben played it with all the restless, nervous fidgeting and all gave me the impression that Aleksander was uneasy with her having only a part of the story but also didn’t quite trust her enough yet.

Therefore I’m also pretty sure he would have let her in on the amplifier plan (I think she was in the book?) and eventually told her the whole truth once they were done banging on the war table. 🤭 There would have still probably been some heated arguing involved, but I think it could have gone okay if Baghra hadn’t intervened.

This is basically canon -- as far as the show is concerned, anyway -- but... he likes it when she sasses/disobeys/etc. him. No one’s done that in quite a while, I’d imagine (no, not even Zoya -- I’m pretty sure she was too into calling him ‘Daddy’ 😜). In fact I’ve had this drabble brewing in my head where the Grisha squad gossip about them (and his whippedness in particular) over tea in some Little Palace sitting room. I should probably write it.

That’s all I have for now. I should rewatch now that I have a few days off, maybe I’ll come up with more. Thank you for asking! 😁

Something I need to get off my chest:

The main reason I have been absent from Tumblr the past weeks is that work has been literal hell ( more so than usual).

The other reason , is that I have taken a brave step after years : try my hand at fanfic writing. As in , soft drabbles , a rather larger AU that god knows if Ill ever finish, and prompt fills.

I know it sounds silly , but this is the most fun I ve had in years. Putting all those thoughts in my head into paper feels...liberating ?

I might never post them online. I might share it with someone , on the off chance that I feel that the writing is on par with what Id like. Mainly , however , Im writing for me - and it helps , folks, more than I ever thought such a thing would. Im looking forward to just sit down and put ideas to paper and not worry about living up to expectations ( which is something Ive been struggling for years with my art).

So yeah. I just feel like sharing this , because I feel genuinly happy about it - and to also tell you that (unlike me) , please dont wait for years to try out new things, because you feel intimidated by others people work/ standards :)

How it started:

Im going to write a drabble featuring Aleksander/Alina meeting under different circumstances and falling in love. Its gonna be slow and self indulgent , Im writing this for fun!

How its going:

Its 3 a.m. , I've changed the timeline 3 times , planned 10 chapters , having written two and Im already at 12k words 🤣

mahonia ⇢ what place, thing, activity inspires you most and how do you express yourself when it does?

As pedantic as this might seem, what always makes me feel inspired are things around nature : sunlight, springtime, the sea. What I missed a lot with the messy working hours of my job is that I got to see very little of either in the office. The best thing that came out of the covid situation was remote working, and being able to just take my laptop and work outside :)

Besides feeling just happy with the above, they always get me in a creative mood. Like, I'd wish I'd have a canvas and paint all the colours of flowers and spring. My favourite kind of vacation is just spending hours by at the sea :)

nutmeg ⇢ how’s your room/home decorated? do you have a specific theme or style going on?

Oh that's an interesting one. Im very much a pinterest girl , like home decor is my passion and all ( insert relevant meme here).

I'm very much into clean lines & neutral colours and a touch of minimalism. To give you an idea, the living room is a combination of white, grey and black accents. Dark wood elements ( bookcase, dinner table etc). So a very austere look altogether, but it makes me feel calm, you know? I cant stand colour palettes that are very colorful, I dont want to have things stuffed with lots of decor pieces... it just doesnt ...feel right in my mind. Of course this is a personal preference, and each to his own!

The bedroom decor is inspired by a winter day : white, dark blue , little accents in gold and crimson flowers for decor here and there :)

I hope this doesn't sound too pretentious but you just happened to hit one of the things I'm passionate about :D

2023 Reading Challenge

2023 Reading Challenge

2023's reading list has been a little bit ...different from what I usually pick. A lot of the books are leaning into my 'comfort ' genre: adult fantasy with a strong romance plot :)

This year has been , well , a little bit challenging and turning to books like this has helped me get through stuff and help lift my mood when I needed it most.

If I had to pick some favourites out of those , I would definitely reccomend the Justice Of Kings and its followup , Havenstar which was a literal hidden gem given its age , Deathless which is just a lyrical , emotional suite that will probably have you crying in the end , and a surpise which I did not expect to like that much - Dragon Unleashed , which features such an adorable , believable romance with strong leads :)
