Wooden Rings and Stranger Things || Althea x Liv
How her mum found out about half the things she did, Liv had quite literally no idea. What had caught her attention this time had been reports of an interlocked ring of trees that had been spotted by a surveyor’s aircraft flying over the woods of Missouri. Trees simply didn’t grow like that!
Naturally, it hadn’t helped to discourage further investigation when it was discovered that radios, compasses and GPS navigation had all stopped working when the ring of trees had been sighted. A general location of the phenomenon’s whereabouts had been reported, but since then, the location and exact nature of the oddity had remained a secret as park rangers had been unable to locate the mysterious sighting.
Fast forward about a week - enough time to make sure that State Park passes had been obtained - and time enough that maps of the area could be acquired, and Liv found herself slogging through the backwoods of Missouri, fully armed with sunscreen, hiking gear, a hiking pack, bug repellent and mace. The thought may have occurred to her that bug spray and mace were sort of the same thing, just for different sorts of pests. And it was Missouri. One never knew what sort of strange people they’d find in their natural habitat.
She glanced down at her compass, then up at the sky. It was going to be getting dark soon, but she knew she was headed the right direction. Well, as right as could be according to the compass and map. If she made camp, she could set up a warding circle, and then take some time to meditate and get a feel for the way the vegetation was growing.
And quite possibly follow the life patterns in the root systems back to her target. If she got really lucky.
