Awakening Side Note part 2
One thing I stated in my previous post about Awakening is the headcannon that Rin’s bracelet prevents Clear Wing’s power of traveling Yugo between dimensions (I’m not going to argue if it’s canon or not because I really don’t care if it becomes canon).
If you look at all the times Clear Wing has been shown to transport Yugo between dimensions he ends up in XYZ, Standard, and even Synchro yet not once did Clear Wing take Yugo to Fusion where Rin is (Rather it’s Yuzu’s bracelet that sends Yugo to Fusion). I mean plot wise it makes sense for Yugo to be sent to Fusion but the fact that Yugo asks Asuka and Yusho where they are in Academia means that Clear Wing never transported Yugo to the island (Although it makes even less sense for Clear Wing to do this because if Rin’s bracelet does restrict his power how the heck could it teleport Yugo to Fusion.)
The reason for this headcannon was in the thinking of how the bracelet themselves are the En Cards and if we look at each of their effects it’s always turning Synchro, XYZ, and Fusion Monsters to normal and negating their effects no matter if they are in the graveyard or banished (If they have some because there are cards that exist that don’t have effects [En Flowers works differently since it doesn’t turn effect monsters to normal but how can it when effect monsters are basically Normal Monsters with added effects {also note that it doesn’t negate the effects of those banished or in the graveyard like the other En Cards.}]) Rin’s bracelet however does not hold the same function as Yuzu’s bracelet where if two counterparts meet it will teleport one away. Sadly Rin’s bracelet isn’t shown to glow unless used by Ray and Reira in the battle against Zarc so we don’t really know much about the properties.
As an added side note I mentioned that Awakened Yuya appears to happen when he is about to summon Dark Rebellion in Season 1 but that the trope is broken in episode 49 where Yuya duels Sora. Yuya did however hesitate when he was about to XYZ Summon Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon.
Now we are in Synchro and remember I still have that rule that it’s where the yu counterparts duel rather what affects awakening. During Synchro this trope that it’s Dark Rebellion’s summoning that triggers awakening is further broken again during Yuya’s first match against Jack where Yuya summons it along with Odd-Eyes without a problem to his... psyche I guess.
It’s further broken in episode 71 when
Yuya kind of gets awakened for a second but is shown to still be in control afterward compared to his previous times. Yuya does not rely on Dark Rebellion but rather summons Odd Eyes Saber Dragon. During this moment I am sure it was likely due to his own anger about the situation with the losers of the Friendship Cup going to the Underground Facility and the audience themselves finding no problem with that situation and even applauding the fact that he was almost going to lose against Duel Chaser 227.
I would put this in the main observation tag but since it was only shown for a second before hehe.... the monsters that are 87-88 I chose to just add it here.
One thing that is also shown to further happen before those episodes (Which while not really awakening since both boys seem to recount some events after the duels) is
Yuya and Yugo’s synchronization during both of Yugo’s duels (72 and 84-85). I mean... I guess this could be attributed to make things appear cooler.
My main thought though considering it only happens two time: Get Yugo to use Action Cards in the Friendship Cup.
Don’t get me wrong this is used in episodes 87-88 to make the all of the yu counterparts awaken but let’s look at the rules set up before we jump into that long observation post.
Remember that 1) Odd-Eyes was not shown to call to be sent in the field during Yuya versus Yuto in 36 in Standard. 2) Yuya is not really close to Yugo (heck the Friendship Cup Stadium is like a far distance away since Yuya is really high in the sky in his towers location compared to Yugo. 3) They both start synchronizing once Yugo Synchro Summons Clear Wing (not requiring Odd-Eyes to even be in the field).
Remember that rule about Awakening more being attributed to which dimension the yu counterparts face each other. Yuya and Yugo are not facing each other yet this is still shown to happen. It’s not Awakening but at the same time Odd-Eyes is shown to resonate with Yugo’s Clear Wing regardless of distance (Compared to Standard where Odd-Eyes and Dark Rebellion resonated with each other being so close to one another). It makes it look as if Yugo being in Synchro gives him the power to Synchronize with his Standard counterpart as long as they are in the same dimension. (I do say just Yuya because 1) Yuto is not shown at all during the Synchronization [not that he even needs a reason to be there]. 2) Episode 85 shows Yuri in the vicinity WAY CLOSER to the Stadium than where Yuya is at the time so there should have been a probability of Yuri synchronizing with Yugo yet this doesn’t happen [even if you attribute it to plot the fact that this doesn’t happen here makes it seem more that Yugo can only synchronize with Yuya]).
Also more based on the OCG/TCG. There is no such thing as a Fusion-Synchro Card nor a Synchro-XYZ Card. Like... How would that even work? Pendulum XYZ Odd-Eyes Rebellion makes sense because while it can’t be summoned from the Extra Deck through Pendulum Summoning when you start the duel it makes your only option to XYZ summon it before it can be used as a Pendulum Scale and then sent to the Extra Deck once destroyed in the Pendulum Zone.
Fusion-Synchro and Synchro-XYZ though... Just thinking about it makes my head hurt X_X. It’s like ‘Do you use one method first or the other?’ Even though it drives my mind crazy how the heck that would work even I know that would be a very unfair card to even own.
One thing I want to note before I close this post: Yuzu’s bracelet.
Something I didn’t mention in this post is that even though Synchronization is active Yuzu’s bracelet doesn’t glow. Not at all.
I can’t remember the specific episode but before 72 Yuzu’s bracelet is shown to have a reaction to the Yuya and Yugo being kind of close but separated in different rooms. Synchronization does not trigger Yuzu’s bracelet and the same thing can be said when Yuya is the only one who is awakened (because 39 has her in the stands so only far by some meters in the stands and 43 and 45-46 being far based on which field area they decided to go).
Why is that even important to remember? Because of what happens in 87-88.
Whoo boy, I am going in for a long dive in that post (but the fun has just begun with analysis).
