Brooklyn singer-songwriter Doe Paoro aka Sonia Kreitzer, released her single "Born Whole" from her debut album Slow to Love. The track has a cool, calm, and collected feel with its contemporary sounds of neo-soul and traces of Winehouse's vocals and James Blake's post-dubstep vibes. Paoro's untethered vocal style is present in all of her tracks making up Slow to Love, while "Born Whole" represents her travels in India, considering she wrote the track a month after her travels.
"The rhythm and vocal cascades of the song are definitely a reflection of my time there. I did study Tibetan Opera in India and I also studied Carnatic singing for a short time. The part where I sing 'each night I wail to the river ready walk on water to find his ghost' is reminiscent of the Indian swara (scale)." - Paoro (arcade44.tv)
BEHIND THE SCENES WITH: YACHT
Our shoot with YACHT was nothing short of magical. We met up with the duo at a bar on the East Side of Austin. As many shoots go, at least one thing has to go wrong. In this case, the bar did not want anyone shooting their space. Bummed, but not defeated we took YACHT on a little walk around Austin. They were heading to sound check at their last show (of two) at SXSW. Walking around we talked about the madness that is SXSW. Claire admitted to us that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the festival due to the lack of intimacy it gave them with their fans. They talked about their love of performing and the ability to connect with their audience. The “exclusivity” of SXSW is what killed them the most. The two of them could not have been funnier, cracking us up the entire time. As we were walking down 6th street we remembered this strange enclave off of the street, complete with a waterfall. We headed down into the rocky nooks, picking a spot where Claire and Jona could post up in a corner. After what was definitely one of the most animated and completely fun interviews we have done, Claire pointed up to a window where she had spotted a man awkwardly bouncing around on a treadmill, wearing a back pack, waving at us and furiously smiling. After a few more jokes back and forth about our new friend on the treadmill, we set YACHT free. We can only hope they will return to us sometime in the near future...
