The first shows my general research design, which involves experimental archaeology and microwear analysis to see how tools in the past were made and used. . "The social life of things" is a theoretical discussion centered on the idea that things are not just passive objects, but have a life of their own that then affects how people interact with them. Just think for example of your grandmother's engagement ring. The history and memories associated with it give it it's own biography, and thus more meaning than any other random ring you see. . I've spoken on here before about one of the central tenants of archaeology, which is to remove ourselves from the bias of modern perceptions when looking at the past.
