The number of daily visitors to Machu Picchu has been capped to just 2500 by the Peruvian government to ideally preserve its most famed landmark.The cost for the permit to visit Peruś favourite is around 37$ (excluding a guided tour). Well, not when you you are aware of the even more ancient and less-visited northern highlands Kuelap which once used to be home to the mysterious “Warriors of the Cloud” or the Chachapoyas. Atop a craggy limestone mountain sits the stone-fortified anciet city of Kuelap (commonly known as the “Machu Picchu of the North”). It sits higher than Machu Picchu in altitude. Rain is no issue here and youĺl find this 2nd-most thrilling Peruvian archeological site open even when Machu Picchu has its doors shut.
Hereś the great news for budget travelers: Kuelap is just 4$ worth a visit! Travelers can either hike from Tingo Viejo to the entrance or take a private transport from the city of Chachapoyas. It is definitely leser known for its remote location but, with the cable car construction, this archeological site is gaining more-and-more attention. and FYI, you´ll find several affordable guesthouses in the nearby Tingo village.
