‘Skate Apart’ by year 1 student Connor Boyd
This project was tasked to create a multi-level restaurant that addresses the restriction of social dimensions as a result of the Pandemic. The structure creates a sheltered space below ground level that is suitable for eating and socialising whilst maintaining social distancing; the roof it sits under is transformed into a series of ramps suitable for skateboarding and other wheeled sports. This adds dimension to the overall structure but also lets it contribute to the community by providing a space for activity rather than taking land from the park purely for commerce. Its Primarily timber-framed construction reduces its perceived weight upon the park whilst aiding it in becoming an organic addition to said park.
