You and Glenn are just on a normal supply run when you came across a herd of walkers blocking the path ahead of you.
There are so many of them that the only option was for the two of you to hide in a nearby building and wait for the herd to pass. Neither of you mind having to wait. Ever since you had gotten together, true moments alone were rare. You desperately wanted to spend some time with your boyfriend with just the two of you, and if you had to seek out an abandoned apartment block to have it, then so be it.
Glenn had even packed a couple of card games from home just in case you ended up in this situation, and a couple of extra snacks for the road too.
"Are you sure you didn't plan this on purpose?"
"Making out in an old apartment building just praying we don't get eaten by walkers? Sounds like my dream date."
However, as you venture further into the clearly worn down apartment building, you can sense Glenn's anxiety radiating from his body. You aren't used to going on supply runs, mostly because you know how stressed he gets about your safety, but today you had begged if he'd take you with him.
You squeeze his hand in an attempt to reassure him, three times in a row just to make him smile. In your secret language, three squeezes meant I love you.
"Come on, the higher we get the more chance we have of the walkers not realising we're here."
You keep your fingers tightened on your gun as the two of you walk up the stairs, the creeks making a chill down your spine as it echoes through the hollow halls. Glenn is only a couple beats before you, but he stands on the rotten step before either of you realise.
His hand slips out of yours as he goes crashing through them, into the depths below.
You scream until you're hoarse in the throat, not caring about walkers as you rush to peer over the hole created in the stairs, searching desperately for your boyfriend. Thankfully, they must have been distracted, because they didn't come. The only people for miles are just you and Glenn.
You hear his pained groans before you see him. Your heart pounds in your chest as you desperately search for him, grabbing your flashlight with shaky hands. Glenn lies directly underneath you on the first floor, the wind knocked out of him and his eyes half closed. His leg was trapped under a large wooden beam that you were sure was supposed to be holding up the ceiling.
You rush to his side within seconds, stepping carefully over the rotten floor until you find the set of stairs that led you to the floor below. Glenn is barely conscious when you get to his side, the weight of the beam pushing against his leg forcefully.
"You're okay, baby, you're okay."
Your words come out in a whisper, your hands shaking as you stare at the blood that had piled around his wound. You're no doctor, but you know it would be next to impossible to lift the beam from his leg yourself.
Glenn's eyelids slowly flutter open, and he finds you through the blur, stuttering out your name.
You hold in tears as soon as you hear your name on his lips, gripping his hand with a death grip. You stroke his hair, willing him to stay awake just a little longer.
"Hey, you'll be alright. You're gonna make it. I'm gonna figure out a way out of this, okay?"
"I- I love you. I love you."
"Shh. There'll be time for that later, okay?"
You rip off as much of your shirt as possible, packing the fabric around his leg in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Tears freely run down your face as you stare at his, pale and sickly and so hurt.
You scream out in conviction, trying your hardest to lift the beam from his leg, but after minutes of trying, you barely move it an inch. It's far too heavy.
"Come on! Come on! Come on!"
Your words come out in a panicked hurry now, your attention going back to Glenn, who had gone from letting out groans of pain to a horrifying, still silence.
You shuffle over to him, sobs ripping from your chest as you reach over to shake his torso, begging him to wake up.
Just as you're about to lay your head on his chest, whispering his name over and over again, you hear footsteps in the distance.
Rick and Daryl had followed the two of you out just a couple of minutes after you left. They realised you were heading into a herd when Sasha returned from a quick sweep. And thank god they did, because your combined strength and speed saved Glenn's life before he succumbed to the blood loss.
He didn't wake up for days, and you didn't leave his side, not even once.
"I'm sorry. I just felt so helpless. I didn't know what to do, or how to help. I thought you were going to leave me forever. You can't, you understand me. I can't survive without you, Glenn. You can't ever leave me. I didn't let you finish talking before you passed out. You wanted to tell me you loved me. I have to hear it again, Glenn. Please wake up. I need you. Please."
"Hey. I- I'm right here, love. I'm- I'm here."
Your eyes shoot up, and you realise that Glenn's eyes were half open and staring up at you with so much love and care. The tears run down your face at lightning speed.
"I love you, I love you, I love you."
You reach down to kiss his cheeks, his nose, his forehead, everywhere you can, whispering those same three words over and over again.
You were never going to let go of Glenn Rhee again.
