11/18/2018: Edit wording for #2 to clarify its context
Notes from November episode of the scheduled, monthly ArcNama livestream. A surprising amount of info this time, maybe ‘cause the anniversary’s just around the corner? (A blog is a place for notes like these right)
1. (3:40) Halloween charms are getting a restock online (they sold out extremely fast at the Halloween Party despite the amount that was prepared)
Will be available at the Arc System Works Online Shop, probably referring to their Broccoli shop?
Preorders open Nov 22.
This online restock will also be a blind box.
The secret charm was Terumi. The restock adds Terumi’s zombie color version, plus some slight changes for the restock (his charms features a pumpkin instead of a skull; the zombie version’s pumpkin glows). Terumi’s theme is the “original devil”, not Beelzebub but Azazel, that sort of feeling?
2. (22:57) Someone asked a question about what was being said in three specific interaction’s moves (Ragna’s Nightmare Edge vs Lambda, Tager’s GETB vs Arakune, Terumi’s Jabaki Fuenjin vs Nine)
Ozawa is super nice and wanted to reveal show more of them but the sheer volume of lines is just too much.
3. (24:28) BlazBlue characters do have ages but they’re secret. Ozawa wanted to confirm with Mori but Mori’s not here today.
The reasoning is something like: If you release their ages it feels like they’ll age; Street Fighter did but it’s continued for 20 years and makes it feel like ah the characters are +20 years (aging as time goes on) it’s less than desirable. This isn’t straight from Mori-P but it’s along these lines (probably).
4. (28:50) Someone asked about Roy’s birthday but they couldn’t get an answer from Mori since he’s too busy right now. Roy should have a birthday (within his setting) though.

Name: Lotte Carmine
Height: 177cm
Weight: 55kg
Birthday: Oct 1 (the day he was brought to the orphanage)
Blood type: A
Birthplace: Unknown (because he's an orphan)
Interests: Scientific observation, Research
Likes: Knowledge
Dislikes: Lack of knowledge
Eye color: Gray
Drive: None
<Personality>
As an orphan, he grew up without knowing parental love. Furthermore, he was shunned because of his brilliant intelligence, and gained a slightly "inhuman" side.
Lotte Carmine (aka Roy) was adopted at a young age by a remote orphanage. He was smart and more capable than the other children, and as a result the other children kept their distance, ostracizing him.
However, a staff member of Sector Seven discovered him and transferred him to an institution within the organization, where he took lessons for the gifted in alchemy and the sciences. Now able to demonstrate his brilliance, Roy began researching seithr and was taken directly under the wing of Professor Kokonoe, who was known as Sector Seven's "brains."
Day after day, Roy was buried in miscellaneous tasks from Kokonoe, but after meeting Litchi Faye-Ling, who was evaluated based on the very same research on seithr, the Theory of Liquid Seithr began to form.
However, the skeleton of the theory made the Azure the cause, the danger of which Kokonoe pointed out and opposed. Even borrowing help from Litchi to independently verify the Theory of Liquid Seithr, it didn't go well and spiraled out of their control.
During an experiment to make contact with the Boundary using himself as a test subject, he made contact with "something." Because of this accident during the experiment, Lotte Carmine is treated afterwards as "Missing".
Mitsuki Nakae: ArcNama host and independent voice actor (voice of someone in World End Syndrome)
Special Guest:
Mori-P, BlazBlue producer
Notes
(3:00) Nakae received a legendary “Ozawa Gundan” (lit. Ozawa squad) can badge, of which there are only a few hundred, from a fan who gave it to her at an event. Ozawa-kun doll will come up later.
BBTAG reveal:
Gordeau: Grim Reaper, scythe-user along with Ruby and Ragna.
Yukiko, attack not too bad but range is very high. Projectile-heavy. Luck is slightly high, even in her original work.
Azrael: High power. Speed not that high. Range because he just uses his feet and what is within reach. Casual, with lots of power and since he simply punches people, [his playstyle is] easy to understand. [Ozawa made] his luck super high because when he wakes up (when he first appears in Blazblue) there’s a hunting ground waiting for him. Ozawa’d like to live like Azrael, after waking up there’s food waiting for him, and moreover [that time] there’s three people [waiting].
Mori says there are several people [in BBTAG] who’ve been [in BlazBlue] since CT, so he thought let’s change things up and thus Azrael.
BBTAG gameplay videos:
(20:00) Noel on [one of] UNIB’s stage. Chain attacks.
(24:00) Chie on Ishana stage. Dragon kick.
(25:00) Waldstein. Very large compared to Rachel. 236A EisenNeigel? Dorendorehiboren? Long reach, a grappler.
(29:00) Weiss. Combos with Ruby too. (Ozawa: Snow White (Weiss) and Snow Black (Yukiko) can be paired together.)
(31:30) Next week on 11/20 is...? Nakae doesn’t know. They asked the [NicoNico stream’s] comments: Pachi-kun’s birthday? Mori-P’s marriage? (Mori: Putting me aside) It’s the date CT first began service! BlazBlue’s 10th year will begin. Anniversary site and lots of things planned. Children who were 5 are now 15; those who were 14 are now 24 and out in society.
(35:50) Hyakuhachi “Kagura likes alcohol. On the BBRadio where Keiji Fujiwara (Kagura VA) showed up, they drew a picture with Western alcohol in it. What kind of alcohol does he like?”
Mori prepared an answer in advance and has Nakae read it: “Kagura’s preference for alcohol changes [when] women [are around]; in other words, he’s a womanizing drunkard.“
(Mori) He likes drinking itself so he’ll drink anything if it’s alcohol, and especially when he sees a woman, what he’ll drink changes (according to to the woman like “this is your taste”) (Ozawa and Nakae: Wow, scary). And then he’ll be hit from behind by Hibiki with a metal bat. (Ozawa: And so they’re [Kagura and Hibiki are] one set.)
(37:37) Bakusuitanuki “Jin’s sword Yukianesa and Bolverk, the Nox Nyctores have names... Do Hibiki’s blades that he shoots and Bullet’s cool thing on her arm have names? By the way I use Kagura and really like using his large sword, [which I] nicknamed Gomubera.”
Kagura’s sword
(Mori) It’s not called Gomubera! It’s unnamed
Hibiki’s blades
Kagari=Rokushikisouken
(Mori: That’s what’s written here! Naeki: [It’s so] cool. Cool-chuuni. [...] Chuuni’s fine isn’t it)
Equals sign between Kagari and Rokushikisouken
Kagari is the same one as in Kagari Touya (篝, lit. “brazier”), but they’re not related at all.
The -shiki in roku-shiki (六式, lit. “Type-6″) is pretty common to make something cooler with a JP-ish feel.
Bullet’s cool weapon
Smash Hail (スマシュ=ヘイル?)
(39:00) Supashifu no Honoka wo Ai deru Arin “Trinity’s important even though she’s not playable, plays a role all over the place. What’s Trinity and Kazuma’s birthdays?”
Kazuma 1/11 Pocky day. There’s a slight reason behind this date.
Trinity 1/6. Mori says if you look a little bit into it you’ll realize it immediately.
(41:50) “BBDW info? Excited with the prologue out”
Mori: Please wait a little longer for profiles about Kazuma and whatnot
On Mori’s twitter there’s a few things too.
Mori flips his paper and on the table a drawing underneath can be seen. Dangerous, almost leaked info before it was ready. He shows some of it to Ozawa and Nakae under the table, and then shows them something on his iPad (hidden from the stream).
Mori: “This sort of character is going to appear. It’s going to become interesting."
Nakae and Ozawa: “Oh, looks like it’s progressing well.”
Nakae: "Oh this design is cool.”
Nakae: “Data downloading. 99%...”
Mori: “Here you can at least tell someone was punched”
Mori: “See this?”
Nakae: “I can’t say anything, but this is good.”
Mori: [about a (character) design it seems like] “That’s the organization’s maguna(?)”
There’s about six pages of material he brought with him that he can’t quite show.
Mori flashes the iPad screen but from offscreen there’s feedback, can’t do that.
Mori & co. want to show more and ask for affirmation, but someone in the back says something and they stop.
Comic Market (Comiket). Ozawa-kun doll. Ozawa says it looks a lot like him, somehow.
ASW FGA 2017 2018/1/13 e-sports SQUARE.
Items sold during summer are online. Including that super popular Es Set, super limited in amount, might be all gone - someone in the back says there’s still some. Items from 5 events, including Halloween Party.
Storia Quiz:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdQHk0Cjfzs9dLCQmo6nSkI-CaUuR4ECsYXRRTe8xxHKKDEZg/viewform
(1:18:00) Public Viewing, the livestream is being shown at Storia (the ongoing collab cafe) as well. They prepared a quiz for the Storia event. A shame to have it exclusive to Storia so they opened up to everyone.
Hosts
(left to right)
Riku Ozawa, battle planner and host of Arcnama
Toshimichi Mori, BlazBlue series producer
(Guest) Mitsuhiro Ichiki, voice of Hibiki Kohaku & fighting game/BlazBlue fan
History
Timeline of history is also on the anniversary website (JP) (and the wiki (EN)).
2008 - 2009
(3:30) Weekly Famitsu first released information about BlazBlue Jan 19, 2008. CT was first playable at Jaepo in Feb 2008 with Ragna, Jin, Noel, Tager and a panel.
(4:00) CS arcade ver released exactly one year after CT arcade version, and this speed was pretty unusual.
2010
(8:44) BlueFes Spring Raid - Koyama sang. Two times, the first time Imai sang also. Eight years ago, Ichiki was 28, Ozawa was 20 and in university.
(10:00) BlazBlue Streaming was hosted by Isomura (Makoto’s VA). They wanted to have something entertaining, but it seemed like guest [hosts] didn’t really come. Kondo (Noel’s VA) and Ueda (Rachel’s VA) showed up along with Isomura to play against players [in the audience]. About 80 players attended, to which Mori thought “That’s ridiculous!”
2011
(12:00) BlazBlue Chimelical Complex (Kimecon ”Chimecom”). Ozawa says the portrayals [of the characters and expressions] were amazing, and Mori likes it quite a lot. Kobayaka-sensei.
(14:15) Mako-sensei (author of Phase Shift) was very excited to write and Mori happy to plot for Phase Shift series. Around this time, Mako-sensei said they couldn’t write Terumi well.
(15:50) Burugeki (BlazBlue Puppet Show, BlazBlue Play). Featuring a Rachel puppet and a paper cutout of Makoto. It was meant to be a continuing series, but at the end of the story, [Rachel’s] castle burned down and Rachel became all blackened, and they thought with this sort of ending, doesn’t it make it not possible to continue [the story]?
2012
(18:40) First Arc Revo. Clone Phantasma for 3DS a successor to Battle x Battle, 10 characters playable.
2013
(21:40) Lots happened: novel, comics, anime. Remix Heart (Mai) and XBlaze (Es). BBCS novel following the BBCT one. And the BlazBlue comic, by Yoshioka-sensei, which Mori quite liked.
(24:30) It’s been 5 years since the anime Alter Memory. Mori’d like to do an anime again.
2014
(26:00) Live Act, which was pretty popular. The first year where BlazBlue was chosen for EVO.
2015
(28:00)
2016
(31:00) Spiral Shift was the first time Mori had drawn for the cover of a novel. He thought he gave Jin a bit too much muscle, and slightly regrets it, but it can be said this was because Jin was [active] in the army.
The slide says “Noel BlazBlue: Spiral Shift” instead of “Novel”
2017~
On the slide they forgot to clean up “PS4, Switch, Steam release” under BBRadio Neo
Reading Letters
One letter notes that female players have increased (on twitter, online lobbies, etc); BlazBlue’s pretty amazing. Mori agrees about the increase in women.
CT Lobbies
(35:00) They asked people for what they wanted to see. Tager/Nu for the opening act. In CT, Tager didn’t have that many skills, was a simple grappling character. Whereas Nu was fast, had strong projectiles, a super boss character.
CT Carl loops
Mori played Hakumen during CT (but didn’t play Hakumen for this stream). Ichiki played Ragna. Ozawa mained Litchi and played some Hakumen under the name “Iceman”.
(1:03:00) Ozawa (Hakumen) vs. Nu
(1:10:00) Ichiki (Ragna) vs Mori (Jin). It's Ichiki’s first time touching CT in eight years, so Ozawa reads to him commands from the complete guide.
Answering Questions
Answering questions from chat and twitter.
(1:24:00)
CF’s soundtrack hasn’t been released. Some [songs] from CP weren’t released either? They’d like to have all of them included [in a soundtrack].
Someone asks about Mori’s teaser from the 10th creator’s comment, the half-revealed title (T/N:「○○ッ○○○○・○○○○ブルー(仮)」 ). But Mori says he obviously can’t say it yet, it’s a secret.
BBTAG news isn't ready yet.
“Do you have plans for GGxBB Live?” They’d like to do another one.
CPEX opening, Nirvana alone didn’t appear. Mori didn’t realize.
Nu Yandere CD? Mori says maybe if they gather [enough interest], they’ll put it out or stuff like a Nu yandere dakimakura. It sounds a little scary.
(1:53:00) Sometimes Mori gets questions from the users like “did you forget about this plot point”. Lots of small details. When he thinks about it, it is difficult to wrap [his] mind around. Writing CT’s endings were also a real headache. To 100% CT you had to lose sometimes. There weren’t many characters at the time so he tried many things, and ended up feeling it was pretty troublesome himself. In CS, thinking it over there were all sorts of characters showing up and the story mixed with itself. So CP was more straightforward.
(1:55:00) Hazama’s name’s origin? Should have been said in CT. He came from the Edge (hazama) thus Hazama. He didn’t have a name, felt it was fine to have any name. Mori says a name should be something that “fixes” someone [in place], [this concept] showed up in Bloodedge Experience.
(1:58:00) Jyayoku Houtenjin name?
CT-CS Mori thought up almost all of the command names, had help with Nu from several people.
CP was left to others (division of labor). It was such a long time ago, it’s hard for Mori to remember.
Ozawa came up with all of Hibiki's.
Mori came up with all of Naoto's. Rachel’s battle planner was originally supposed to do it but they felt they couldn’t come up with Naoto’s so leaving it to Mori was for the best.
(2:00:00) Mori notes there are a lot of people who like Hibiki very much, it’s pretty amazing. So they thought about putting him on merch like the [Halloween] keychains, can badges. Since Hibiki likes Eastern (Japanese) sweets Mori’s thinking they could do something in that direction.
Speaking frankly, Noel shows up the most and all over the place on merchandise for whatever reason; Jin and Hazama also, and so recently Hibiki as well. As for Relius there’s an eye mask.
Mori says, speaking bluntly, Hibiki will be present in Dark War and asks if it’s not good for him to be included. Ozawa and Ichiki think it’s fine as long as Mori is fine with it; Mori says with Tsubaki and Acht too it’ll be interesting, but also [a] pretty terrible [story]. Mori wants to apologize too since some people are unhappy about (Dark War’s) publication [T/N: about how it hasn’t released yet despite being planned for 2018 I guess?], and they’ve gotta explain it [T/N: probably the delay?] properly. But not yet.
Central Fiction Matches
Ichiki (Hibiki) vs. Mori (Naoto), Ozawa (Jubei/Susano’o/Azrael). From CT to CF the roster increased from 12 to 36; tripled in a decade. Mori reads comments from twitter.
(2:23:00) The Twitter hashtag #BLAZBLUEとの出会い (lit. [My] Encounter With BlazBlue) is pretty interesting. Mori says a fighting game is [a game where] all sorts of characters are the main character, that sort of feeling. There are people who came to know BlazBlue through the anime (Mori’s thankful for that) or through playing with friends or older siblings, or through BBRadio. And one who learned of CF through the BBTAG free play; Mori’s thankful for that also, that those enjoying BBTAG would also go and play BBCF.
In the beginning (CT), Ozawa went to a loketest and played Tager there but forgot, so when he went to game centers he started playing Litchi. It wasn’t just because of the setplay, but... [he didn't recall the other reason(s)].
Mori says, "Terumi’s got a kind of charisma, although I'm the one saying it."
(2:30:00) Amane’s concept was suggested by Sugita (Ragna’s VA) during the production of CP (”What do you think about this kind of character?”). They thought about what to do with Amane’s battle style if he was going to appear.
“Will Mori-P be going to EVO Japan?” It’s next year Feb, Mori-P says he’s probably going. Over at Kyuushu. Ozawa says it seems like BBTAG’ll be a main event there. Tekken 7 and Soul Caliber and BBTAG.
(2:33:00) [What about future] Lives? Stage [plays]? Mori-P thinks doing [more] lives and stage plays would be nice.
(2:33:30) [How about a] Soundtrack. Mori thinks he said something a long time ago about releasing one. It might only be sold as a limited product, so he apologizes in advance. The soundtrack would be nice if it were a product that one would feel happy owning.
BB vs GG is a little impossible. (Mori)
Es’ figure is going along well. Mori saw a sample a while ago.
(2:40:00) (I don't recognize who's speaking...Iguchi? from here on "staff member")
Hazama’s initial concept was more of a trap-type character at the very beginning: catch the opponent with Ouroboros, then hit them with the trap. It’s more like a boss that doesn’t move would be good they thought.
About Tsubaki, when the staff member asked Mori about what kind of character Tsubaki was (back during CS), Mori said she was [a] very "fair and square" [sort of character]. So the battle planner thought about straightforward attacks, anti-airs and such.
Mori jumps in to clarify that "fair and square" was more like an "ally of justice" feeling; and he feels like he remembers saying this back then. Mori says Tsubaki feels kinda like a soldier.
(Staff member) In CP, Tsubaki wears black, like she fell into darkness. The staff member moved to [GG]Xrd around then. Was glad for her at the end of CF. But for CP, especially at the end of arcade mode, she felt somewhat extraneous, and there was talk that she didn’t have the performance to be a boss. He went and held a meeting with the director of the time, Ishikawa, about what to do about Tsubaki’s performance as a boss. So they thought about making this time’s Tsubaki dark. They were going to settle on how to execute boss-version-Tsubaki, but it was hard for the staff member to conceptualize. And then Mori said by way of clarification, "Well...[she’s] dark!" Everyone [in the meeting] was quiet for a moment.
But rather than “dark” as in cowardice, it was clarified that she was just unable to see her surroundings; and they thought, if she can’t see around her, doesn’t that just make her unable to fight? So they thought about how to “darken” her attacks, and thought about more underhanded [moves] like projectiles and throws. But in the end the boss version didn’t come out, and they decided to [make] Izayoi instead. (Mori)
When Mori first said he wanted her to be “black” they responded with “huh?” When they asked Mori how to make her "dark" he said "whatever's fine"
(Staff member) Every release, Tsubaki had something interesting story-wise about her.
“Ichiki Challenge”
(2:50:00) The producers and directors gathered there play one by one against Ichiki.
(2:53:00) (Pachi & Ozawa) CP was when the gameplay began solidifying [into its current state], although there's quite a difference between CP and CF. Game speed's changed a lot, became a little faster. Drives in CP began to be more of a “catch”. Burst was always there even in previous games.
(2:59:00) (???) [The move where Kagura says] Wyvern was thought up by Iguchi. Speaker did Izayoi, Azrael. Shin-chan Amane. Izayoi’s base was Rori-san. Iguchi, Bullet; Iguchi has a really good naming sense.
Ozawa learned from how Iguchi named Kagura & others in CP to name Hibiki's moves in CF. Mori-P, when he was creating Hibiki, thought about making him like a ninja. Like with misago kudaki (the air grab Pulverizing Fin) it'd be cooler if [the move] was more quiet.
Mori thinks Mai has good move names. Ozawa lists Dankuhourai (Sylvan Hurricane Assault), Shurin Hirensousakuya (her astral Royal Crimson Sprout: "New Moon Lotus") as examples.
Ending
(3:22:00) Champagne! (sparkling wine)
Mori can't drink [today] so he has Ichiki go first.
Ichiki asked if it was really alright to have a livestream like this since it's such an important date. Ozawa and Mori insist it’s fine because BB is really supported by the players, which is why they had [this] livestream [be] for the players. They’re including Ichiki in that group of players as well.
