Arcobaleno AU : Encounters
((this is why i ask you guys for drabbles. It gets my brain flowing to remember things I thought up at work))
I felt like I was in a movie as I stood in front of them. We'd found Tao but he was in more trouble than I thought. He was kneeling on the ground, head down. Thick chains were wrapped around his neck, arms, torso and forehead. Each end of the separate chains linked back to one monstrous white hand. It was so surreal I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been standing right there staring in the abyss where the two figured had appeared from. Both figures faces were wrapped in linen bandages and the rest of their body draped in flowing black mantles. One had a top hat while the other 's hat resembled more of a fedora. As I heard Tao breathe heavily, my heart began to break.
"Oh look. Seems we got caught. Oops."
"Tao!" Nakuri ran towards the small boy. I could only watch, dumbfounded, as she got within a foot of Tao only to be sent flying at least five meters away just by the movement of one of the figure's hands smacking across her body. It happened so fast I couldn't believe it.
"W-What . . . who are you?"
"Oh, seems we got a new blood here." The same man who had hit Nakuri spoke again. "Augh I can't believe it. Come on, man, let's go."
"No wait! I demand to know what you are doing with him!"
"He's a criminal." The one holding the chains attached to Tao's frail frame finally spoke, his voice rumbling like an earthquake. "A criminal to the mafia world. We, the Vindice, catch and imprison those who disobey the mafia laws."
"But Tao hasn't doen anything wrong! He's only ten!"
"Stupid child. He escaped our prison. We've been searching for him for a few months now."
"P . . . prison?" I stared back down at Tao's soft childish face. He looked so broken, so innocent. How could he be a convict? True, I knew next to nothing about my new Sun Guardian but such a revelation was worse than learning about Sumire's dark past.
"Sorry, kid. We're just doing out job."
"No! Please! I . . . I'll take responsibility! He's under my custody!"
"Stop lying! You're just a kid!"
I took in a sharp breath and planted a foot firmly on the ground. Energy pumped into my veins as I forced out the very words I hated to say but what were needed to save Tao from these awful men. "I am Sawada Tsuruhime, 11th Boss of the Vongola! I demand you unhand my Sun Guardian and friend!"
The air was silent for a moment. Both figures stood as if in a daze though i couldn't tell any expression because of their bandages. "Please! Just . . . let him go. I'll make up for whatever he's done."
Slowly, they moved. The one holding the chains dropped them in surprise and began moving towards me. "Did you say . . . Sawada . . . ?"
"Dude, dude no. Dude, if we don't get him back Bermuda's gonna kill us again!"
The Vindice man wandered closer to me, a bandaged hand appearing from under the mantle. "Did you say Sawada . . . Boss of the Vongola . . . ?"
"Seriously dude! Stop that! We'll get in so much trouble!"
His hand reached out and cupped my chin. I was too paralyzed from fear to move away from it; i just stood there as the rough bandages stroked my face. Another hand came up and began to peel the bandages off his face. A gross smell came from within the pocket of his face like that of a rotting corpse. He uncovered his face right in front of me. Screams lingered in my throat unable to escape. Though his sunken eyes looked kind and full of joy his entire face was a mess of rotting flesh, exposed teeth and yellowed bone. Oh no . . . I'm going to die . . . I'm going to die!
"Sawada . . . Tsuruhime."
"REBORN YOU IDIOT!" I was never more glad to see another one of these creeps come towards me. He pulled the other one off me forcefully, swearing profusely. "What do you think you're doing!"
"Skull, this is Tsuna's daughter."
The one named Skull did a double take. "Tsuna's . . . daughter?"
The one who had touched me like a creep suddenly pulled back the chains from Tao's body and . . . bowed to me. This same guy who was kidnapping my friend was now groveling at my feet.
"Reborn, we are going to get in so much trouble for this."
"A little trouble is nothing. It feels like I've been waiting for an eternity for a moment like this." With his rotting teeth gnashing together as he spoke, he outstretched his hand to me. In his bandaged palm was something silver; a ring.
"Take this to your father. It belongs to him. Tell him his home tutor, Reborn, says hello."
