The sculptural form of Wadden Sea Centre rises from the marshlands of Denmark’s West coast, offering a contemporary interpretation of a traditional local craft and creating a landmark gateway to the surrounding landscape. Dorte Mandrup Architects have aspired to embed the building in its context, through its materiality and construction as well as in the thresholds between internal space and the external environment.
The monumental brick form of Islev church, designed in the 1960s by Inger and Johannes Exner, is a seminal work of Danish modernism. The church is defined by its relentless use of rough red brick that frames church rituals, provides material continuity and creates a strong formal expression.
My next feature with Arcspace takes a look at Canberra’s Nishi Building. Home of the ultra-cool Hotel Hotel and numerous shops, eateries and aparments, it’s a great example of mixed-use development done well.

Dr Chau Chak Wing Building
As of late last year, I’ve taken up a new position as a South-East Asian correspondent for the Danish Architecture Centre’s blog, arcspace. My first article is on Frank Gehry’s Dr Chau Chak Wing, which is located in Sydney, Australia.
