Can You Dig It? A Redpoll dances energetically from branch to branch, feeding on the seed of a Tamarack tree. These Arctic breeders stay warm by increasing their feather plumage by about one third during the winter months and by burrowing into the snow at night. They excavate tunnels up to a foot long and several inches below the snow surface. This provides excellent insulation and protects them from Windchill. Tunnels in the snow!
