Say what I will about Arknights Endfield, but they still have the sauce on disability writing and engaged beautifully with the concept of the Reconveners here.

Like, fuck. Yeah that IS how it should be approached. This is a very real, very common interaction that I never, ever see handled with any sort of empathy for both sides of it.

I have been on both sides of this. I often am on one side or the other.

There is a profound envy in living a life of pain and seeing people who were able to Get Help that I was never afforded. And I have to live with that, and know that others are on that side, towards me, too

And I don't... like, when I read this file and processed it, I started tearing up a bit, because you just don't see this concept in fiction, not with empathy for both sides.

It's always "the one who healed is Less Valid And A Faker (stolen valor)" or "the one who's envious is a Whiner"

It's always one or the other instead of engaging with the reality of everyone having different experiences and needs and us having to just deal with that.

And sometimes, yeah. Sometimes you just have to shut up around someone who is currently hurting.

Sometimes this kind of sympathy feels like twisting the knife.

Sometimes "I understand what you're going through and it will get better (it did for me)" doesn't help.

And that's... painful, yeah. It's hard. And generally the moment will pass. But nonetheless, it's important to know that these moments do happen.

And I'm so glad to see it here.
