"I wish I'd never grown up."
Surprised, Cosette tilted her head to the side. “You do?”
“Spare change?” she asks. "--Not for myself, of course." She extends to him a letter.
Marius was not expecting company that evening; truly, he didn’t expect company most evenings. The man kept to himself and was happy to do so- He took pleasure in seeing the world but living in his own.
Not ten minutes prior had Marius returned from a scanty supper of bread and fish from a decidedly cheap restaurant. He had just removed his coat, draping it neatly over the back of a wooden chair when there came a voice- By no means a lovely voice- From the door post.
Quickly, he turned, lips pursed. It took him several moments to recognize the girl at the door as one of the occupants from the apartment next door. Marius shook his head quietly to himself, but not in refusal.
Perhaps he was not wealthy, but he certainly was not in such a position that he would refuse anyone- A family, he remembers now- What change he had. The man picked up his coat once more, searching for his coin purse in the folds of the coat. Marius glanced up, amending his shaken head to a quick nod-
“Just a moment, mademoiselle…”

Cosette stares out the window with her chin in her hand, wishing that someone might come to keep her company. She knows, of course, that it is not likely. She has only gone out for lunch while her father is away, and she does not know many people. She couldn't ask someone to come visit her in the cafe if she'd wanted to. Even so, she wishes, and day dreams that someone might walk through the door and sit across from her to cure her loneliness...
Just as the thought crosses her mind, the door jingles, and she looks over to see who has come through the door. She is not disappointed by who she finds there, although most people might be. The one who comes through the door is short, tattered up, with hair in knots and clothes that fall off the shoulders. She is dirty, as if she hasn't showered in days, and she does not look very pleasant.
Still, Cosette feels as though her dream has come true, and she hops to her feet, stepping lightly over to the other girl. "Would--" She hesitates, realizing only now that it might be strange to approach someone this way. She doesn't hold the thought in, however, because it's right there on the tip of her tongue, and this simply must be fate..! "Would you like to come eat with me?"

"I brought that shirt back!"
[ She's going to just not mention the fact that she's had it for somewhere around three months. ]
"--Just shut up, would you?"
