I think that outspoken feminists have ruined feminism for a lot of women because I used to be a proud feminist and I now feel disgusted by the word. Now, I did not become an MRA because they're a fucking joke despite the obvious misandry from some feminists because we're not oppressed, just discriminated against, and I still believe in equality of the sexes. There's a girl at work who believes in equality, but is outspoken against feminism because of the feminist reputation...

I agree, although I consider myself a pretty big feminist - and proud of it, because I stand for everything that belongs with the TRUE definition of feminism, and I tend to be pretty passionate about equal rights in general. I’ve gotten in a lot of arguments about those that are against feminism, and it’s been pretty heated, but it pisses me off when there are people going ‘all the way’ and saying stuff that are misandrist, like women are better than men, etc. Like all people should be treated equally, especially when dealing with gender.

Now, I had to look up what an MRA was because I didn’t know, and from what I can see it kind of sounds like the whole Meninism thing, which is a bit of a disaster. Like I can see why men are upset about some things, especially with gender stereotypes (nothing gets me more angry than gender stereotypes trust me) but cis-males have so much more privelage in our world then some of them know, and I get that they have problems too, but they need to look at what’s going on with other people, especially women and minorities and see that we need to deal with those stereotypes, as well as natural and internalized discrimination that are more focused on those groups first. The worst of our problems should be addressed first. One step at a time. 

And anther thing, the true feminists, that care about ALL GENDERS, need to stand up for what feminism is really about - EQUALITY. We need to tell all of these misandrists to sit the fuck down and learn about feminism just as much as the rest of us, because what they’re preaching is NOT feminism, but a twisted version far from the truth. They’re taking the word feminism and yes, they’re ruining it, and that irks me so much because now the rest of the feminists have to inform everyone who listened to the misandrists and tell them how bullshit that is. 

I’m sorry the word has been so tainted for you, and the rest of the others out there. I just want my word back. We need to take back the word feminism. Give back our word please. That’s my goal for 2016.
