Wilbur is an... interesting roommate. When he's not obsessing over his editing, he's honestly good. Puts his dishes in the washer, doesn't leave his laundry everywhere, that kind of thing. He's a bit disorganized, but it somehow makes the tiny apartment you share feel more like home.

Even his occasional manic energy starts to feel comforting, starts to feel like home, though you treasure the soft, quiet moments when the mania has run its course, leaving him a half asleep mess on the couch.

It's why his absence is so jarring. Why when he vanishes in the dead of the cold, bitter autumn nights feels like missing a part of you sometimes.

Why you keep waking up shivering on the couch, having fallen asleep waiting, hoping to be there when he comes home. You rarely are. Most of the time when you wake up it's silent, the air still in that odd way that means you're alone.

Sometimes, though... Sometimes, you wake up slow as freezing cold hands drape a blanket over you. Wilbur's fingers always feel like ice, and when you first met him it was jarring. Now, it's familiar. Comforting.

You blink sleepily, squinting up at WIlbur where he looms over you in the dark. His icy fingertips brush over your cheek, and you reach up to take his hand in yours, leaning into his touch.

You can't see his expression well in the dark, but you know his eyes have gone soft, fond in that way they do when you show him affection. His thumb swipes gently over your cheek, the touch stark against the heat of your skin.

"I'm home," He murmurs quietly, almost a whisper in the silence. "Sorry if I made you worry."

You wish he knew that you love worrying after him, love having someone you care so much about that you worry if they're okay, if they've eaten, are they warm?

You huff a silent laugh and give Wilbur's hand a soft squeeze.

"Welcome home, Wil."
