A Blog-Worthy Moment
Today after an oral presentation about my internship and after my non-existant Chinese exam, I went out to the dinner with my friend Sophie's parents to a restaurant called La Petite Chaise (and they really were small chairs) in Paris. The dinner we had was absolutely great, I had the French classics, Onion Soup and duck. When we were waiting to order dessert, a squabble erupted at the table next to us. Basically, the American couple next to us were arguing with the waiter about the bill; they were trying to argue that he should've charge them for one menu if they shared it, which is just not a thing in Paris. Anyways, eventually, knowing that we spoke French, the waiter asked us to translate for him. So we helped him out, telling the couple that it was not his fault, and it was just the restaurant policy (also intentionally leaving out some comments he made about French brasseries, which were extremely hilarious - basically he was saying "Maybe you can do this in a brasserie, but not in a real restaurant. We serve real food here, not frozen stuff.") The waiter seemed very disturbed by the whole scene even after the couple left. Every time he came back to the table, he kept going on about how ridiculous the situation was and how he was just trying to be nice to the couple. I jokingly said I became his best friend because he basically just ranted to me for the latter part of the dinner. Then, on the way out, he thanked me for translating for him.
And because of that moment, I realized, "Wait, I can really speak French."
Coming soon... Italy highlights...
